I'm going to upgrade my wheels first and the shimano rs10 were my target although I notice from the notice board lots go for the r501 ? Or should I upset the wife and go for the rs30?

I do like the RS30 and was actually going to get a set. At £160 they were close to the Mavic Aksiums that I got from Decathlon for £145. If you like the RS30 and have the money then go for them! I am so happy with my purchase. I have been in two sportives so far and was able to make direct comparisons with the original wheels and others and I must say my Mavics where faster but noiser.
I like the RS30s and I am toying about upgrading to deeper wheelset at some time with a budget of £200 and looking at the RS30. Not sure just have the compare to my Aksiums if they are better so I am just digging around the internet right now for information.

Bearing in mind the bargain that the T3 is, I decided that whilst I wanted better wheels, I didn't want to 'splash out' for a wheelset that costs nearly as much as the whole bike, so decided to go for the 501's - they are obviously budget 'upgrades' - but with a set of better tyres make a complete difference to the feel of the bike, and I am certainly not disappointed with them.

Cycling Active did a bit of an update on their original T3 review a while back, it was basically about upgrading the bike. They recommended the RS10's / 20's (not too sure which), i had originally intended to go for the RS20's but couldn't find them at a good reduced price and came across the 30's. I liked the look of the deep white rims and they were a good price so went for them. There's light a wheels for the price but there's not that much in it, thats why i went for looks over weight.
When i first put them on the bike i was really impressed with the difference, much smoother ride and felt faster. One thing i have noticed, in strong wind it really catches the wheels and blows you about so beware.
There should be some bargains about at the min as they've got the 21's and 31's out now. If you can afford it i'd go for the RS over the 501's.

Didn't know about the new series - 21,31. Will have a look. Thanks.

Check out Merlin, they have them on offer, they're not much more expensive than the 20's and 30's. Not sure i like them as much.

Have had both the r501 and rs30 on my bikes. There is no difference in 'feel', rolling performance or whatever you want to lable the placebo effect as.
Only difference is the rs30 are 2x+ more expensive and are actually slightly heavier than the r501.
After all, you are all not racing where you are riding for money and .00001 of a second matters. Biggest by far improvement is to be made to your engine.
r501s at £65 is an absolute bargain.

Which ones though?
The cheapest 501's are the lightest (100g). The Bladed gives you better aerodynamics and the 30mm give you a stiffer wheel.
Shimano R501 Standard Spoke Clincher Wheels Pair £69.95 Shimano R501 Bladed Spoke Clincher Wheels Pair £73.95 Shimano R501 30mm Bladed Clincher Wheels Pair £87.95

So am I better buying r501 bladed 30mm than the rs10 as they are roughly the same price ? The rs10 are 50ish grams lighter than r501 but they are noted to be pretty weak due to the low number of spokes. I say go for the non bladed r501. And with the saved money get some good tyres. The bladed spokes are silly. They MIGHT be extremely slightly more aero, but only if you are heading exactly dead into a wind, away from or there is no wind at all. Every time a car goes past you it will push air against and through the blades slowing you down more than than any potential benefit etc etc. They prob weigh more too. Ribble seem to of upped their prices on everything slightly recently. They were £65 few weeks ago.

Not come across these before. sound really good value as being handbuilt you can rebuild them (not economical with factory built wheels) Shame there aren't better pictures of the red/white rim options
