I agree the FC3 looks really good and in the flesh looks pretty special, looks alone I think it trumps the planet x though component/wheel wise its always going to be the planet x. Looking at their site you can pick from 4 colours black, white, red and guru blue. I think you can mix frame and fork colours to. Now with me racing, i see a lot of quality frames and various bikes. the planet X frames are nice but i'll point out though. 1. The black frame is referred to as a 'naked frame' where there is no coating of paint and a visible weave. Now the weave isnt too bad but is very thick. But the main issue is the way they've labelled the bike with the planet X logo. They've made it look cheap and tacky. 2. unless your a female, you wont be going for a baby blue coloured bike with 'flowers' on the steerer tube. 3. Now i love the white but, with me and experience of white, dirt shows easier if it has been ridden plus if you get light scratches in the paintwork, if you dont polish everytime you ride it, it will start to look dirty. The only decent 1 going is the fire red. Plain, simple and looks bad ass. The only thing to take note is its made of a slightly more basic carbon. But for the money, cant go wrong. Id stick to the red and white if my choice for a heads-up. Plus, be careful as well, they dont have to meet a lot of standards with the bike as your effectively buying it as a set of part, NOT a bike. Thats why they charge you for pedals. If pedals come as preset on the bike, they have to meet higher standard of regulations. I use Planet X quite regularly both in the shop when I'm ever down Sheffield way & online, all the guys in there have their city & guilds awards & certificates in bike building & wheel building on the wall with some having more experience than I've lived (24 years). Some are ex-pros & one of their workforce rode for US Postal & was u-23 world champion in a former life! Their knowledge of biking is spot on, even if sometimes in the shop they won't approach you (you have to take the initiative generally if you want to ask them a question, although I have to admit I've only been when they've been busy). If you live near to their shop you even get a free Retul fitting if buying a bike. I don't see them as being any less trustworthy than Decathlon tbf & their customer service has been spot on with me. Although having said all that, me personally I would prefer the expense of having an FC3 & upgrading parts on aesthetics alone! The Planet X is definitely not a looker (especially compared to some of their higher end frames).

Sorry guys more food for thought - How does this one compare to the planet x - the FC5?
For Β£1100 its a little more than the planet x and Β£250 more than the FC3 is it worth it?

Tough one that. Personally I'd say it is worth it over the FC3. But comparing it to the planet x isn't quite so straightforward. It has better wheels, but a lower groupset. That being said, apart from the brakes, it is full 105 whereas the planet x uses an oem chainset which I've read is tiagra level or thereabouts.

I'd add that buying the FC5 would probably be better for those not so near to Planet X's stores in Barnsley & Sheffield as there's a few Decathlons nation/worldwide just in case something does go wrong (and Decathlon will probably expand, definitely a gap in the market in the North East whereas I can't see Planet X moving much further beyond South Yorkshire in the foreseeable future). Plus the difference from 105 & Ultegra wouldn't be that great or certainly that noticeable (mainly a use of different materials to get the weight down). You'd be paying slightly more for the convenience of having a more local store if anything was to go wrong mind. Is it just me or does anyone else actually prefer the look & colour scheme of the FC3 over the FC5?

I could say look at the fc7, (which was a bike i was definitely going to get, until i sold it in store ) and that will set the standards on value to quality. I think if we're to come back a few steps and try and look at bikes with the similar value of lets say the MAXIMUM the FC5 range, making it no higher so, 1099.99. This would make it more interesting to see what is the cheapest but also the best quality for money aswell.

I've only seen the FC3 in the flesh so cant really compare against the 5 but it did look really nice and from a novice point of view it seems amazing value, and its the bike I keep going back to when googling. And the jump from the T3 to that would be huge, its fast becoming the bike I want (long term saving and the other half's permission pending) and would be more than enough bike for me.

I have been looking at it only thing puts me off is getting the sizing right as I am over in Nothern Ireland. I was so close to buying the FC 3 but couldn't get comfortable on it am supposed to go to the shop and measure it against my T3 but haven't hot round to it yet.

the ribble gran fondo, go and check the reviews from people who have had it over 6months, you wont buy it.
the frame has a habit of cracking at the BB shell and on the headtube, factor in ribbles supposedly less than perfect aftersales and what looks like a good bargain might not be

ZS cheers for that one of the reasons I am holding of on a bike id that I have been spoilt by the after sales service from Decathlon as I might have mentioned a couple of dozen times on here. Just need a proper fitting and maybe a review or 2 from FC owners.

I've had a look on google and the only reviews I can find are the customer comments on the decathlon website itself, are there any FC3 owners on the forum or does anyone know if there has been a cycling magazine review?

When I was trying to decide between the T7 and FC3 I had to resort to the French decathlon website reviews and google translate. Led to a few laughs if nothing else!
