my 3 does me just fine thanks. Whilst out for a run (jog) yesterday, couldn't help noticing a lot of 'slightly overweight' middle aged men on their Β£1,000.00 + steeds with matching team Lycra - all a bit sad really. :-) I agree to the extent that is there much point worrying about wheel and pedal weight when the spare tyre outweighs all savings!! Enjoy the ride, enjoy your health, enjoy the view and enjoy the bank balance!

I'm just going to stick with the 3 ring and just not use the granny ring. Putting a 11-25 on it aswell. It would cost Β£30 to get rid of the granny ring and buy a double after selling triple. So may aswell leave it and be prepared for anything, 27 gears, too many, but will only use 18 of them.
Probably will not leave the middle ring often.

Some wise words again. Naive question: how will I know my chain is worn? Can buy a tool...or use a ruler! 12 links should be 12inches. Minor stretch is ok. If Google it will find some rules of thumb like if within 16th inch is ok. 8th means change chain etc.
