Haha. Of course how do you do it? We usually show ride data in 'who's getting out there' - on the Strava internet page for the ride, you just cut and paste the link address in the top text window across to the thread.

So turns out the sram chain works OK. But not as nice shifting as could be. Sooo found the Sora shifters for £95. Sooo going to sell the 2300 ansd buy the Sora shifters. BUT do I go compact double or stay triple!!! I don't really use the granny gear. Got up a very very steep hill yday in the 39/25. Stood up. Wheels did spin a bit though. I suppose it's nice having it to spin out legs to get rid of lactic acid. The compact 50/34 would cover most things but I suspect there is a gap in the gear range somwhere in teh middle with the 16 tooth difference, or am I wrong? Has anyone fitted a compact double on here?

Should have bought the T7 - compact already fitted, price difference would have warranted it.

My advise as always been to buy the best you can and then upgrade. Although there are those of us who are so good has to be almost more than hobbyist and more bike mechanics in their own rights. They can go and buy the T3 and build it up (more fun I understand, more money too). I can understand the point of view, but me I don't qualify - not in rads class that's for sure. Hence I saved up for the T7. Actually I was saving up for the FC3 but it was taking too long. Went for the T7 which was a lot closer - £250 closer.

How do you find the 50/34 on it? are there any gaps in the gears, or messing about trying to find a nice gear to set off in then change up?

It's nice to upgrade but I don't go with the premise you have to - look at robertsims ride from yesterday. I think his T3 is standard except for SPD pedals. 130+ km ride with hilly social part in middle, 1230+ metres of climbing. There's many an expensive bike out there that isn't being piloted to those levels. Don't get me wrong if I had the cash thwn new wheels would be on. But i love my t3. Have done 1600miles on it so far this year and only upgrade is spd pedals. Also put on sram chain and cassette after about 1000 miles as chain wore out a bit. Tyres finally wore out enough to warrant replacement this week with some rubibo pros fitted. However before this week only real upgrade were pedals and done 70mile rides (81 yesterday but on new tyres) and all has been fine. I look after the bike and it has looked after me. Remember best and cheapest upgrade is the engine!

How do you find the 50/34 on it? are there any gaps in the gears, or messing about trying to find a nice gear to set off in then change up? I think if anything you'll find a compact double is easier to use, for example with a triple you shouldn't use the bottom 3 cogs on back when in granny ring, or the largest 3 cogs when in big ring. With a double it's really only the outer extremes you need to avoid. Also with a triple you have more gear duplication, so a 39 with 12 is very similar to a 50 with 16 for example.

Some wise words again.
Naive question: how will I know my chain is worn?

my 3 does me just fine thanks. Whilst out for a run (jog) yesterday, couldn't help noticing a lot of 'slightly overweight' middle aged men on their £1,000.00 + steeds with matching team Lycra - all a bit sad really. :-)
