Nope, I'm in the high rankings but not the fastest down it, it was the first time I went down it, was just cornering well and carrying good speed. Will have to go for KOM next time .

PS Whiteway Hill in Dursley is a famous cycling hill - Google will extrapolate.

Over 100kmh down Whiteway into Dursley last Wednesday (circa 60mph) - I win, time to lock thread ! Seriously? That's pretty hardcore mate. Even if i could get up to that kinda speed i dunno if i'd have the bottle to.

Agreed, I'd have to spot to change shorts before I hit that speed! I've done just shy of 50mph down Tog Hill by Bristol and that was enough. That part of your brain that realises afterwards that if you came off it's game over was starting to shout at that speed!
Rad - that is mental and fair play next time we go out on a ride if we go down there you'll have to wait at the bottom!!!!

For me it is weird how having kids has slowed me down. Hills always used to be about going as fast as possible down them. Usually off road.
Since having kids I guess I spend so much time telling them to be careful and watch what they're doing it is starting to rub off!
The 'what if I come off' happens during the descent rather than afterwards :-(

I've done 56.5mph on my Orange P7 touring bike fully laden dropping off Buttertubs Pass in the Yorkshire Dales heading north. The trick is to hold your nerve and keep off the brakes until the last minute before entering a left hand bend complete with gravel and a stone wall.
The snippet valve is fully tested on this descent. It forms part of the Tour de France 2014. It should prove to be an interesting section of the stage.

I've done 56.5mph on my Orange P7 touring bike fully laden dropping off Buttertubs Pass in the Yorkshire Dales heading north. Clucking bell, I've done Buttertubs Pass many times on a motorbike and there are enough sharp corners across the top of that to slow down below 56. Mind you, I guess the last 1/3rd is a straightish run. You'd have to be very, very confident in your brakes though!

It straightens out for a short distance on the lower section with a left hander at the end. You have to carry as much speed into the straight as possible and brake as late as your snippet valve permits.

I managed 42.4 on a shallow hill towards Stevenage, I don't think my legs could go any faster, maybe I could beat this on a steep hill where no pedaling is required just coasting.

74 KPH down a hill somewhere in Normandy in France. Lovely day, sun shining, very little breeze, flat out, fabulous.
