Could I put a short cage sora (nice and black) on? www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-sora-rd-3500-9-speed-ss-rear-derailleur/I have a 12-23 cassette and the 30/39/50 sora chainset. Soo is within the 32t max (31) But I see people say not to use short cage on a triple chainset, why??? I'll only use the 50 ring with the 12,13,14,15,17 cog. The 39 ring with them all except the 12 and 23. And the 30 ring with the 17,19,21 and 23. Gives a good even speed range between 9 and 30mph at 85-90rpm. Do you lot thing this is a practcal setup? I have not used the bike yet, waiting for my pedals! Probably should be in the tech section, sorry!

Hold your horses. I think Short cage rear mechs usually only have 16T capacity of front (so a double 34/50 is widest) and Medium cage (which I think the stock one is, not short) is 20T capacity (so 30/39/50 triple works). Although reading this it should be ok: www.stanford.edu/~dru/triplecheat.html

I wouln't intentinally do that but accidents happen I guess.

Maybe the stock is a medium cage then, I just assumed by the fact they don't like 28T on the rear that it was a short cage. So overall then you need a (25-12) = 13T + (50-30) = 20. so a 33T capacity minimum? Worth going for the medium one from Ribble then in case you want a great range, it's still cheaper than th Wiggle short cage.
