..... to buy a pair that DON'T look like a tarts hand-bag??? Went to my LBS this aft with the intention of picking up a pair of road shoes, in order that I can then fit my recently purchased Exustar Keo pedals and then sell on my MTB style XT SPD's and Specialized Comp MTB shoes, but all that I could see was a selection of multi-coloured powder puff nonsense with shiny bits and eye-watering price tags. Does nobody do a relatively sensible looking pair of (predominantly) black road shoes for around £70 - £80 these days??

Rule #5, you're a road cyclist now, you won't be stopping or walking in them and should be firing around so fast that no-one will notice, at a cadence of 90+ who will be studying them anyway and if you're in lycra you may as well go the whole hog anyway lol !?!

Thanks for that. Quite like them, but any idea how they shape up for size? I'd prefer, though, to try shoes on before I part with my hard-earned, where possible.

I don't own them so don't know how they size up.
Wiggle do offer free delivery and free returns so you could always order a pair and if they don't fit return them for another size. There is probably a review somewhere saying how they size up to give you a good estimate of required size. Not as easy as going into a store and trying shoes on though.

Thats's top idea and what I started doing. Just get few different sizes and do free returns with Wiggle and Chain Reaction.
The Shimano range around 40-60+ mark all look IMO. Plain and understated. The DHB from Wiggle or Diadora Sprinter 2 from CR are cheap and look decent.

So DelB what have you decided to do? I was in Decathlon yesterday and the best low price I saw was £60. Nearest carbon sole was £100.

Reckon I'm going to nip down to Evans today and have a nosey there. They do Specialized, Louis Garneau, Giro, Mavic, Shimano and Bontrager. I looked at lots of stuff online last night, but really want to try them on for fit instead of messing around with various boxed appearing through the post and having to send them all back again.

A tip for trying on. Make sure that when you try the shoe on you tap the floor with the heel that way your foot will be well against the inside of the heel of the shoe. I was told by an old timer that by doing this you make sure you have a bit of space at the toe of the shoe so that your feet can have movement in the shoe. I have found this advice to be of great use to me when I am out on my early morning rides and my feet get cold or numb. I just move them around in the shoe. With the room to spare you can wear thick socks easier.
