I did the one in Brum last year with my lad. He loved it as did I as a newbie to cycling. If the weather holds out its a good day with bikey stuff to get involved in. It's all very leisurely which is great when you've got young uns with you.

We did the Bournemouth evening one, was a bit congested with maybe not enough roads thrown over to cyclists, but there was criterium racing with high quality amateurs as well as local businesses over a 1.8km loop (not at same time!).
Went to the Southampton one a couple of weeks later and it was amazing! Masses of roads shut, great route taking riders around some great areas including a good tented grassy area with all the attractions, eg Wiggos TdF bike, Halfords bike maintenance, a Decathlon tent, etc, but highlight was going along the docks so you could literally reach out and touch the hugest cargo ships you've ever seen, and loads more along a 7km circuit. Our 10-year-old did two circuits on his BMX, we were well chuffed and he loved it!
So in summary, worth having a look-see.

Nice one guys, boats would be nice but i can go without if needs be. Because i'm a novice i want to try out stuff like this to push me a little bit to get out there and get involved. Will definitely give it a try next time it comes round my way.
