Over analysis going on here in my opinion, you can make the most of both bikes with effort and attitude.
However, I would buy a T5a if you want to start from position of more refined riding and even consider going to a T7 if you can handle a compact on hills.
Both the 3 and 3a are fine bikes but they aren't going to appease precise thinking and I hasten to add demanding folks (like your good self), unless you're willing to fettle them like an old classic car and live with some compromise.
