Hi All, Joined the group yesterday and fully intended going for my 3a tmrw, talking about bikes with a friend at work who suggested the Carrera TDF Road Bike, looked at it on Halfords website and I'm defiantly not convinced, what are all your thoughts?? Cheers Danny

What is your fitness level ?
The TDF is only a double front chainset - the T3a is a triple
T3a has lifetime frame/fork warranty
T3a has 2 year warranty on everything else.
I think the TDF is only one year warranty.

What is the weight of a TDF? I picked one up the other day at Halfords and it seemed a fair bit heavier than my red triban 3

Cheers Deano, my fitness level is pretty non existent hence purchasing a road bike to help lose weight, I know the current TDF offer (£250) looks tempting but if you are starting out I would go with the T3a and its beginer friendly gearing. Some of us have even lowered the T3 gearing with a different cassette so we know all about non existent fitness levels - haha

Had a look at the TDF yesterday when I was in Halfords. It is a pretty crap bike compared to the Triban 3. I felt relieved I went for the Triban as I was looking at them both at the time of my purchase.

Cheers pal, like I said at the top I wasn't convinced myself just needed to hear from a few other peeps before I took the plunge...

For me at the time, a year ago I may of been swayed by the £50 saving, so I could upgrade pedals. I now know and I'm very glad I went for the T3 even if the TDF was offered at £250 to me.
Carbon fork, 1kg weight saving, triple groupset which really helped as a newbie, better finish IMO, Red = Fast but also now more so because I got to ride the bike in the shop in Decathlon and their customer service has been very good. All Halfords bikes are chained to displays lol.
One positive for Halfords is they have plenty of branches where Decathlon is still quite sparse.

Hey Danny, ive had the same problem choosing between the triban 3A or 5A compared with the carrera TDF. Ive read reviews about how heavy the TDF feels, especially how it rides up hill. The case should be whether you go for the 3 or 5.
