I went down a pot hole last night during my ride and my Count 14 flew out of its holder and into the road. How lucky I was when the kind range rover behind me drove straight over it I now have cadence, speed and heart rate monitors with nothing to record all these vital stats on! Any recommendations on a cheapish computer that I can use all my existing sensors on?? Thanks Mark

Ahhh buddy. Feel for ya. Did the band come off or the holder itself?
There are few options that comes to mind. Bryton 20/50 I think are ANT+ as is Cateye stealth 50 but they are both more than £50 of the C14+. However these two are GPS units.
I can't think of other ANT+ units unless you get a 2nd hand Garmin, etc off ebay but they usually sell for quite a bit.

The band is still in place. The unit itself came out of the holder somehow. Only had the thing a couple of months.
It's a shame that decathlon don't sell the computer on its own. Seems a waste spending another £50 for sensors that I don't need.
Can't seem to find anything 2nd hand off ebay that fits the bill at a reasonable price. Maybe I'll go for something like the cateye
Thanks
Mark

Might be worth talking to decathlon and seeing what they can do? Complain that it shouldn't have fallen off like it did.
Might not be able to get them to replace it but perhaps you could try and get them to sell you just a replacement computer?
Worth a try ringing and seeing if there is anything they can do.

Good suggestion by Harley. Not sure you can complain as they could easily point to you not securing it properly. However the Decathlon guys are a nice bunch and happy to help.
If you get in touch with them, through their FB page, they may be able to assist. I say this because I just returned by complete unit to the Surrey quays branch as the sensor was faulty. The main unit was perfect and nothing wrong. They may be generous enough to send it out to you or at slight cost.

I would hint directly that you know another member from this board has returned a faulty set to SQ this week so if they are not doing anything with the main unit, you'd be happy to take it off their hands.

Here's what Lakeside decathlon said about my situation
"Thank you for contacting us. After checking our workshop files, it is not possible to get hold of the computer unit of the Count 14 - only the elastics and supports.
I will send an email to the Surrey Quays and Southampton managers to see whether they have any spares handy. Within each store I've worked at in the past, when something is returned as defective, it is binned, but perhaps they operate differently.
The only case in which I can return the computer as defective and give you a refund is if there was a fault with it. In this instance it is unclear whether that was the case or if it was poorly attached."
Douht if I'll be lucky enough to get the unit from surrey quays. If not I may go for an older used garmin with gps that I can use with my sensors. Don't think it's worth spending another £50 for count 14 with sensors I already have.

It be such a shame if they bin those items. I would think they'd have an RMA procedure. If not at least they would keep it as spares in the workshop. That's what I would do. Like I say, I literally sent mine back last week so if they got it, you'd hope they'd get in touch.
I would also recommend a Garmin unit as it will eventually be the way you go if you clock up serious miles. Not to put you off but my faulty unit was due to speed/cadence sensor which a few of us think lets in moisture causing it to stop working. You may want to take precaution (if we are correct) and protect it from getting wet.
Let us know how you get on.

I do hope they will help you hxmark. It's also help if you are calm and pleasant when you ask if they can help you out. You could post in the thread - what have you bought today, asking if anyone has a 14+ that they have upgraded from. Unfortunately I upgraded from a Sigma 1609sts so thats no help to you. All the best.

No luck with the count 14 unit. At least Daniel from Lakeside branch tried to help. Looks like your unit may have found its way into the bin Cyrax!
"Thank you for enquiring about the availability of a Count 14 computer unit.
Unfortunately, after having sent enquiries to Surrey Quays, Southampton, Reading and Edinburgh, none of these stores have reported to have a spare Count 14 computer.
If you feel that there is anything else we can do, then please let me know"

Or it's found it way into someone's personal workshop as a spare lol.
What are you going to do? Get a GPS unit now? If you get an ANT+, you've got the sensor already.

I was thinking of getting a used garmin edge 305 which seem to go for around £60-£70. I've now seen another member on here is selling his Count 14+ for £35 +P&P. Not sure what to do now!!!!!

It all depends on what you are going to use a cycle computer for and how serious you think you'll take your riding. I say that not to put you off or to encourage you to spend money but just that you get what is right for you. The C14+ is great little bike computer with all features you'd want from a non-GPS. My faith in it's build quality has been shaken due to a faulty unit which seems to be caused by water getting into the sensors. If you don't need or want GPS capability (lets say for Strava and the like) then stick to C14+ or even an alternative wireless computer. What's great about the C14+ and some people fail to realise is that it's rear wheel mounted meaning you can use it on turbo trainers, if you have one. Keep an eye out on ebay, I've posted it here before where seller gets job lot and they go for about £30 delivered. Your other option is to cut your losses and get a used or new GPS unit. zoltansocrates SatCount+ thread is a great read because it demonstrates when it comes to GPS units, you get what you pay for. Me personally I wouldn't get a GPS unit if it isn't a Garmin for sheer build quality and GPS accuracy. I'd end up swearing at any unit that failed to locate a signal or plot you hovering above the stratosphere. There are other GPS devices at considerably less, like Bryton and Cateye but then also decide if you need ANT+ for compatibility with heart rate and other sensors. If you can manage to snap up a used Garmin, 510 think you'll be laughing as they are great little devices. You may have to be patient to get any sort of bargain off ebay. Good luck.

Ive been going over and over all my options and think I will go for a used garmin edge when one comes up.
I have been considering using my Samsung Galaxy Note with ANT+ adapter and IpMan from google apps. This apparently works well and you can use cadence and heart rate sensors. I would also have to find a waterproof mount for the note and I'm a little worried about the vibration that would be subjected to it.
I enjoy using Strava for the segment competition when I do my short ride or two during the week and I record my longer Sunday ride aswell both using my note.
I already have cadence and heart rate sensors and although I dont yet look at the data seriously, I'd still like to use them
So all things considered, I think the garmin will be the best option........or maybe the note.....no, the garmin...
My self irritating research will no doubt continue
Thanks for your help
