Hi. So after taking my 5a out for its first journey I learned two things. Firstly, I'm super unfit. Secondly, I have numbness in my left scrotal region. I've been reading up on this and it seems I'm not alone. Can anyone recommend a way to check my saddle is correctly positioned and also recommend a good replacement saddle, preferably with a cut out, should I need one. Thanks in advance, Steve.

Sounds like your saddle is slightly nose up and pressing where you don't want it to.
Tilt the saddle slightly forwards so your sit bones are on it rather than your complete undercarriage

Better check the height of the seat post too while you are at. Did you actually get a fitting done? Check that your knees aint straight when you are on the down stroke.

Hi, My knees have a slight bend when the peddle is at 6 o'clock. A fitting......the guy watched me peddle for a minute or so but I wouldn't say I had a fitting as such. Steve.

Steve. ok thats about it these days unless you go to somewhere like a Specialise store. Have you changed the position of the saddle like the rest of the guys suggests?

Yes, I've angled it down very slightly.

id suggest get the saddle 'spirit level' level and take 5 or 6 weeks minimum to get used to the saddle, they are never comfy straight away and there is that passage of right to go through if you buy a replacement saddle youll have to break that in too

Keep seat level or with VERY slight tilt. The other thing is riding style. If you just sit on saddle for hours on end then likely to get some numbness (freaked me out first time, had pins and needles in the wee man for about 48 hours!), now I try and get out saddle for 10-20 secs every 20-30 mins, usually on downhills when I freewheel and just lift bum off saddle for a bit to relieve pressure and help blood flow. Haven't now had any problems for ages.

Steve. Make sure you're sitting using the right bit of you and not on your "barse". Your weight should be mostly on your 'sit bones'. This picture shows the measuring device for saddles (being used by "Death") and the bones I mean. If you sit on your hands, palms up, on a padded chair you'll feel them. Apologies if I'm telling you stuff you already know. I'll admit to not knowing it when I re-started cycling, and my cycle-keen sons needed it explaining too!

Steve, here is a thread about saddle and a recommendation. I think I will be going for the same one. I suffer the same junk pain on longer rides and I've been using the standard saddle for a while now.
