Hi again,
After the great response to my initial post re frame sizes, I thought I'd ask another question.....
Is there a great deal of difference between the triban 3 (red) and the 5? Many thanks,
Steve

I went to buy a (red) 3 back in late March and walked out with a 5a instead. 5a is a smart slate grey colour, which I preferred over the red, comes with a full 9 speed Sora drivetrain including the 2013 shifters with improved paddles and an allegedly better saddle. That all made it worth the extra £100 for me. (I got mine for the £399 they were initially advertised at, just before they went up to £429).

The 5a was up against the Scott speedster and another sub £500 bike in cycling plus this month. The 5a won.

I traded my 3 for a 5a recently. Have to say the 5a feels like a way more expensive bike for some reason. Everything just seems to work a bit better. The gears shift smoothly The brakes (breaks)work much better than the 3 The saddle is the most uncomfortable thing Ive ever sat on, but I like the colour! I really like the look of it.
Not very helpful Im sure but my two penny worth!

5a every time, it is a better bike out of the box Obviously, but you are missing the extra £130. Which would buy better wheels, which in turn is much more of an improvement than Sora groupset!

In your opinion, and you will notice i said out of the box, implying no upgrades Hardly missing the tun thirty either, its still the better bike on the face of it and Are new wheels a better improvement than a decent gear interface....for a newbie?

Most definitely, yes. And the difference between 2300 and sora groupsets is about £40.00. Sorry Zoltan, but your 'logic' here is missing something?

Sorry Zoltan, but your 'logic' here is missing something? well that there is the beauty of debate, i dont agree with you Subjectively, better seat, better finishing kit and improved wheels, better paint finish arguably - certainly more aesthetically pleasing You get the full sora gs on the five, you get a cheaper alternative chainset on the three, more gears available on the five, more modern gs and its half a kilo lighter Sorry steve not on your bus here
