The things you clip your back wheel onto, dunno what their official name is. Anyone have one for winter training? If so would you recommend one? And how much roughly for a half decent one?

Turbo-trainer. I've got one, but would only use it when there's no chance of getting out and about on the bike. Bought mine about six years ago for around £100 in a sale. You'll sweat buckets and its mind-numbingly boring, but really the only way to keep your legs turning when the weather is inclement.

I just fancy one to help my fitness. Found a couple 20 minute spin classes i'd struggle to go full pelt on a bike round about where i stay, busy roads and loads of traffic lights

Pretty sure it was Merlin Cycles. Funny thing is, I bought it six years ago and only got it out of the box and used it for the first time when I got my Triban in March this year!!! It's a Minoura Mag 850R, which I don't think even exists any more!!

Decathlon do one for a ton but i dunno if it's and good, wouldn't sprnd a fortune on it if i was gonna get one i would only pay 100-150 tops or nothing at all. Just like the idea of them.

Best to buy in the summer, I'd guess, as nobody will likely be buying them at this time of year and you'll likely get a decent deal. Check out EBay and buy a used one, maybe?

I have a Tacx Satori Pro that I picked up on a special offer from Decca for £130. TBH as DelB said it's something for the winter or when you can't get out. Mine is decent for the money and it comes with a front wheel holster and a L'Alpe D'Huez DVD. I really want to try a fluid turbo trainer as apparently they're more natural than the magnetic ones or my dream one would be one of these: www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/TRTAIGENM/tacx_i_genius_multiplayer_vr_trainerPurely as you can connect online and actually compete against other riders (and pro riders' ghost times) - I reckon anything combining my hobby of gaming with my hobby of cycling and my competitive nature to boot can't hurt (and would probably make the turbo trainer far less boring).

I bought a TACX off a cycling buddy, one he had lying around which he don't use anymore. It's magnetic free wheel and I've only used it for an hour so far. SO boring but I'm ready for winter this time around. Doing no cycling in winter and you'll pay for it in Spring/Summer. Back to 0.
I should be ready this time around. Got LCD in front of me for some fresh prince re-runs, a tall fan and some space in spare room.
It's a worthy investment IMO.

To be fair that one looks like a peach, imagine they could incorporate that with games consoles and race each other online in a game it would be amazing!

Shame you can't get any that plug into your electrics and feed electricity back into the grid. Could save a few bob too!

My trainer cost £60 on ebay and does the job pretty well. You're supposed to be able to vary resistance but I'm finding that part hit or miss, still was good value.
