Hello all
I am new to cycling but as all my mates have now got road bikes and, having kept up on my old Dawes Kalahari, its time to take the plunge. So after much research it looks like a 5a for me. But there's none available. So maybe a 3? But none of those either in my size (5' 11" with 32" leg, so am assuming a 54 is needed). I am influenced by the love you all obviously have for Tribans. But when you just want to get out and ride, its starting to look like a trip to Halfords! The Carrera Virtuoso seems a good option. So too the Moser Speed at 488 on Wiggle.
I DID want a Triban but starting to lose the will... So with none online and living in Cambridge any advice on how to get one? And any thoughts on sizing welcome too.
Thanks folks and hope that i will be joining in as a rider not a wannabee soon...

The stock indicators on the website are notoriously unreliable. I'd try ringing your nearest stores (Lakeside I guess?).

The 54 sounds too small for you. I have a 54 frame - i'm 5'9 with a 30" leg. All I did was shorten the stem for a nice fit. At minimum I expect you should be on a 57.

They sell like hot cakes, I had to travel 160m to get mine from Southampton in the end. I'd presume you need a 57 as you're almost identical to me, just under 6ft and 32 leg fits me perfectly.
When I was checking last week Surrey Quays and Lakeside had the 3 in a 57. Trouble is phone numbers don't work for them stores, so you have to do the online email form.

I've spoken to them numerous times over the phone.

I count myself corrected, Surrey Quays just takes you through to some automated terrible thing.

Thanks all - I had wondered about a 57 but came up as a 55 in another sizing table. Clearly a 57 would be the better fit in a Triban. As for telephone numbers - almost as rare as the bikes! Don't like email forms much but let's see how quick Surrey Quays can be - likely easiest to get to.

Before embarking on the email request, anyone got the Surrey Quays/Lakeside numbers to hand? Thanks!

Go for the Moser speed on Wiggle if you can afford it. It's a bargain and knocks the T3, (and the T5a IMO due to the better wheels and brakes and lighter frame) into next week. A mate has just bought one and it is very nice, it looks much nicer in the flesh, I am considering it although can't really justify it.

Agree with the 57 as your fit. I'm 5' 10" with around a 32" leg measurement, and that what I'm on. I tried a 54 in the shop, and measured the top tube and found it was only a couple of cms shorter, but the difference in feel was huge.
The 54 felt like I was steering it from somewhere around my navel and also felt distinctly wobbly.

54's at Lakeside, but no 57's. The bad news is at 5'11" you would likely need a 57. I'm 6' and 32 and the 57 is perfect. The 54 was too small.

I seem to remember thats what swayed me towards the T3 , Another place to try is edinburgh branch- I bought mine off them online and arranged my own courier to bring it to N wales, the guy Scott from cycle dept was very helpful and so were all the other guys I liased with by phone- maybe worth an enquirey up there?

There is also a suggestion that 7005 alloy is not all it's cracked up to be as it is more brittle than 6061 and has a tendency to crack in extreme conditions, and is more susceptible to corrosion. Just saying!
