I've just updated my Google maps on android and tried it out on the Nexus 7. I've got to say that after trying out a test route from Fleetwood to Hawes which is one of my regular routes I am a bit gobsmacked at the outcome. It was pretty much the same route I take and which has been refined by myself over the years. It includes a good cycle path around Lancaster and a single track lane on the opposite side of the valley from Ingleton to Ribblehead. Amazing..!! The routing was set for cycling and offered my regular route as the main route to take with two other routes as alternatives. I also tried it out along Blackpool sea front and for the first time it routed me along the cycle paths down the coast. Care is still to be taken with routes provided as looking at a route from Hawes to Whitby it takes you over a section of the N Yorks Moors that would be a no go for road bikes but passable for a touring bike. I usually use bikehike and tried that afterwards. It came up with the route which it normally does and not one which I would choose to take. It looks like an excellent update for Google Maps. There are more tweaks with the update for motorists including re-routing options to avoid traffic congestion. Here the Google video covering the changes link
