Good evening everyone...
Forgive me but I am not an experienced cyclist. I bought a rockrider 5.1 from Decathlon 18 months ago. Due to a number of reasons, I barely rode it. Now I have been told to get fit so have been cycling... started of with 10 mile runs, now a week later I am doing 17/18. And I am really enjoying it. These runs are all on road and I am cycling in the evening for leisure rather than doing my commute...
And then I realised that I may have completely the wrong bike for what I am doing! All signs point to the triban 3 as the best pound for pound road bike...
So I have a few questions... is it worth the upgrade for me? What real differences will I feel in the ride? Is it hard to get the hang of a road bike? I have never owned one... do they feel solid and stable like a mountain bike? Can I just ride the bike and go? Or do I need new shoes, new wheels, new pedals, new etc etc...
I have seen a couple second hand. I am 5ft7 and the graphs say I should take a 54cm. Does that sound right?
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help me on this!
Nick

Hi Nick.
I'm nearing 40 (not quite) and have been into mountain bikes since I was 16 and got my 1st proper one, a GT Tequesta. All these years I've enjoyed mtbs as you can mix a bit of off road bridleways etc into the mix, but as I've got older I've hated riding heavy(ish) mtbs on the road, with their sluggish tyres, gearing suited to trails etc. I have dabbled with a road bike before, a Giant FCR which had flat bars like a mtb, but most of the components were road bike type. I liked this for road riding, but once I had that I started thinking about getting a proper road bike. Anyway, I sold that 2 years ago and biking became fairly occasional for a bit, once a month or less until I bought my Triban 3 in April this year.
What can I say, I think I'm a complete convert, I've fallen for road riding far more than I expected. Being on a proper road bike makes going out so much more fun, the speed you can achieve, the ease of rolling, the lightweight of the bike, it's bliss compared to mtbs. Now don't get me wrong, I've still got and love my mtb but that's only being used where it's designed for from now on, on the trails. Right tools for the job sums all this up.
Regarding "do they feel stable" well I think they do, hitting 40mph gets a little shaky, but you'd not even get that on a mtb unless down a mental steep hill. It took me a few rides to get used to the handlebar setup, and I was tweaking away for a bit changing the angle etc, but I find it very comfy now.
Yes you can just ride and go, you might want either proper toe clips and straps instead of the half clips supplied, or even better clipless pedals but then you'd need proper shoes with cleats. Wheels etc are fine, upgrade over time if they wear out or you fancy a treat.

Hey Nick, like you i been riding a hybrid/ mountain bike then bought a BTWIN T3 (white) and i love it, any bike/cycling will keep you fit as long as you are moving and not being a couch spud, if you want to be riding a little faster on roads or paths then a T3 is a great choice, real diff for me in ride was/is ....... bike is very much lighter than my last, bit bumpier but you'll get used to it, no its not hard getting used to it altho you will prolly need to adjust the bike to you, it feels to me a very responcive and strong bike, yep ride and go like im doing but you prolly will go for upgrades soon enough like am going too, im about 5/10 and have 57cm, im no expert but going by your hight and mine 54cm would do, prolly wait till someone with more knowledge comes along tho

Nick Hi Same here, started off on an Hybrid, moved onto the T3 about 4 months ago. I now find myself using the T3 more as its so easy to ride. once you get it set up right.
As for up grades, I am waiting for parts to ware out first, then I will replace. Best of luck mate
