Hello everyone,
I would have introduced myself in the welcome area but thought that this information was probably more suited to this area.
First of all, this is my first venture into road cycling and I have only ever riden mountain bikes and hybrids (and not for much more than going to school/uni and to pop to the shop). So I did my research and just like everyone else, I stumbled upon the Triban 3. I had initially been looking to purchase a Ribble bike, however I was talked out of buying a more expensive bike by someone (cough-my mum-cough). So once I had realised that I wanted a carbon fork and half decent group set, the only option for the price was the Triban 3.
Now this brings me to the subject of this post, albeit long winded. I hovered around this forum as a guest soaking up all of the Triban knowledge and came to realisation that the Red Triban 3 is THE bike for a beginner cyclist like myself and that the white one, although a little prettier, is not quite up to the same standard in terms of value for money. Thinking that I was a few months late to catch a red one, I thought I would take the chance and email my local Decathlon in Surrey Quays. I emailed last night, and then this morning I got a speedy email back saying that there were not 1, but 2 Red Triban 3's in my size - 57cm. So I reserved one and went down this afternoon and picked it up and I can certainly say I have not had as much immediate joy out of any purchase in the last few years.
There were also a good number of other Red Triban 3's knocking about the store as I cycled around, testing my new bike. So if you're local, or willing to go the distance, I would recommend dropping the Surrey Quays store an email and seeing if they have a Red Triban 3 in your size.
In regards to the gears I did have a little issue riding back and further investigation when I got home led me to believe the gears could be a bit faulty. When I switch the centre cogs (there are three), the left gear shifter can actually go 6 settings (I don't know if this is standard), however it appears to be two settings for each cog, and the one of them makes an awful noise as it appears the shifter is rubbing against the chain. The other problem is that when the gear lever is shifted to the furthest left on the little indicator, it becomes incredibly hard to move it back up as if it gets jammed. I will probably ride it back down to the store next week to get it looked at once I have a helmet and some better shoes, but any thoughts on here?
Thanks for reading my long post, and just wanted to say that everyone on here seems like a really friendly bunch so I look forward to sharing Triban experiences with you all!
