Thanks for all the responses guys, looks like I'll go back to mph and save the km/h for non cycling friends

I always use miles even though I'm not sure why, perhaps I ought to change. I'm well versed in Km as I used to have a motorbike that had Km only speedo, so it wouldn't be much of a problem. But I do like miles and mph.

Jonnie W, can you post some more pics of your t7? Liking the look of that red tape. Took me a while to work out how to get them on here (pretty bad for a supposedly tech savvy 15 year old! )Β Thanks! I like it. What tape is that?

I use km and km/h, just comes naturally i suppose with road signs and speed limits in ur particular country. Handy to compare with those maniacs in the TDF. Some of those guys have no fear when descending those mountains!

I use Miles for one simple reason, when training most of us have psychological distances, which in my case is another 5. If you use miles for training, you tend to go further than if you use KM's. For example, when I started cycling, it was 10 miles, then 15 and I can remember breaking the 20 mile mark and pushing for 30miles. If I worked in KM's, then I wouldn't have gone as far. Recently, I did over 70 miles in a day and now planing the 100 mile mark.
Of course, I agree that to none cycling friends, it is helpful to talk in KM's. Confuses them and makes your distances sound so much more..

I guess it just comes down to what you can relate to when out on a ride, I tried Km but it just made no sense to me! Gonna start using km for confusing non cyclists though!!

Started with miles then had Oz change to kilometres while I was a child then move over here and am in miles again. Suppose I'm kind of bilingual.

KM & KPH. I prefer them. the numbers are bigger, more impressive and disappear faster... (OK that and I spent 12 months cycling in km's on my tour and don't see the point in returning to miles.)
