I think it would have to have to be the 25th rad.... I'm down the bottom of Cornwall till the 16th..... And bandit is doing the wiggle Mendip sportive on the 18th.....which I'm thinking about. Not sure about the climb up cheddar gorge :-\ Don't think do , I'll have my MTB shoes on on that day Do I really want to do 60 miles that includes going up cheddar gorge on the last day of my fortnight off work? I'm not sure :-D I work on roofs by the way.... First day back will be a struggle.

Here's the sort of thing we might do. Proposed start and end point on the right loop, an ancient hostelery with fine ales and good food just in case anyone should want such things: www.huntersrest.co.uk/index.shtmlA series of loops, with 2 n a half / 3 n a half climbs, depending on your preference - carefully selected for celery, crossing through Nempnett Thrubwell twice; once fast and then round Blagdon Lake returning to it uphill (it's on the top of the two first peaks on the graph) - some hills are unavoidable around here but they're not too taxing; there is one steep just under 10% part out of Blagdon Lake, climbing back to Nempnett Thrubwell, which would be the halfway point. It's only steep for a short spell, so doable (even if you have to stop or walk); compulsory stop in NT for pictures and a recharge. The last loop is on the right of the pic and has the biggest vertical climb - I've suggested this layout so it can be cut short at the crossing point (and end up being 45km). This will make it more accessible for those who like less distance or newbies (or girlie roofers on holiday ); should someone wish to do slightly less distance, then they cut the last bit off and chill out in the pub garden for under an hour, whilst the adventurous carry on for the last part; if you like the look of it or if not then speak up.

That looks really well thought out, Radchenister. Out of interest, do you have the .tcx or .gpx available so i can have a squiz in Google Earth (yes, to check out the gradients)? That date sounds good, although it's two weeks before my wedding and anything can happen between now and then! So I'm a definite maybe.

PS - 10% is doable, I hit some 25% peaks this weekend at about 50 kms and managed those OK; believe me, hill climbing really ain't my cup of tea. 10% peaks should be within the capabilities of everyone - if they need a breather that's fine ... we will just wait.

If it's September then so be it, although taking months to get out on rides is a bit of a faff IMO .
