Hi all, don't shoot the messenger but had to relay this snippet. The chap at my local Decca, Ben, was telling me on Monday how he had converted his stock T3 into a single speed fixie for winter use. I guess he just doesn't need the gears where he rides.
He also mentioned another T3 customer of theirs who had left just the front fork and frame intact, and spent Β£1,000+ on upgrading everything else. I said why not just buy a more expensive bike in the first place, Ben's reply was the guy liked the frame...

That second bike sounds a bit like Trigger's broom in 'only fool's and horses' :-)

you know what its like pernie, sometimes the ready made dream machine doesnt have the soul
its the story you get to tell about the bitch front mech upgrade install. the quest to find that right stem, the set of wheels that was on offer but a 5 hr drive away to collect, the surprise rear mech find at a stupid random half bike shop cum garden centre, all those things, the hunt for parts, the unique bespoke way that you upgrade, it makes the bike your own and damn it, it creates a bond of sorts
i can totally understand it
