For me I love early mornings on weekends - leave about half six, home about 10ish. Beautifully quiet and whole day still ahead. If in weekday then some roads will obviously get busy in rush hour to work and back, but depends where you're heading

Surely that depends on where you live /ride? anyway I would say if your out during the week just miss rush hour in the morning and evening

If you're off work and in holiday mode, just get up, have a nice breakfast, easy pace set up and off for a longer 1 - or after lunch: just avoid the peak commuter hours IMO, I find after 10am and after 2pm works well (heading off track from school run). You'll never dodge all the traffic, so little point in getting complicated. Loonies work on flexitime, you're never going to avoid all of them but the closer you get to 9 and 5-6 and the worse the drivers - science fact !

Weekends i like to get out by 8am at the latest, that way i get though the town center before it starts to get busy, once out of town the country roads and lanes are usually quite quiet. Sunday evening after 6 is usually very quiet for me too and can be a nice evening ride.
I don't get out week day evenings until about 6.30, the roads are pretty busy but again only until i get out of town. Not too sure during the day but my guess would be to head out after 9.

During the week from around 7pm. A quick 30 miles gets me home for 9. At weekends I try to get out at 8am at the latest if I'm doing a long one. Overall I prefer the evening rides during the week but they won't last too long when the summer tails off.

During the week from about 7:30 in the evening is really quiet. Weekends the earlier the better really.

Rob Sims has called a pre 7am one on Saturday! I will be up reluctantly at circa 6.00am for a 6.30am depart, I like my porridge to have half an hour to settle: it's OK but I always feel a bit blurry first thing. Comes from 5 years of paper rounds in all weathers when a young un; does feel good when you're back and have a whole day ahead, although we've got some lumps to get over in Wales so I won't be out jogging in the afternoon .

It'll be fun! Roads will be dead quiet, animals will be out and about. Up about 6.15 for me, stuff some food down and out the door about 6.30 trying not to wake the kids on pain of death from the wife! And when we get home the whole weekend is free and miles already in the legs.
