Great pictures, looks like a sunnier weekend than we had here in Eastern England. Did you do this on your T3? With the standard gears or have you put a super big sprocket on the back? Cheers mate. I did this on May 26th. Here's the Strava report: app.strava.com/activities/56415312I've put an 11-34T cassette on to match an LX rear derailleur. It works well and believe me I needed every single gear. The 11T sprocket was put to good use on the downhills. On everyday riding it has more poke in higher gears than the original gearing so it is a perfect set up for what I get up to.

Beautiful scenery mate but are you trying to kill me? Those passes are famous for killing the strong hearted much less a novice rider such as me. Maybe next year!

I was starting to get a little peckish as I approached Gosforth and I needed to fill the water bottle before the Hardknott ascent. A trip to the well stocked village shope was most welcome. Din dins : A couple of banana buttysThe water bottle was filled and a couple of High 5 Zero's dropped in for good measure. Suitably refreshed it was off we go over a series of hills, ignoring the Wasdale signs (one of my favourite places in the Lakes), towards Eskdale. I was now getting excited. The time for hard graft had arrived. There were quite a few cars heading up the pass and that could well be a problem. 30% ... phahh..!! Bring it on.Up we go....

You see those motorbikes up ahead? The middle bike went down just a bit further up the climbYou can see them stood up on the hillside. Some of the bikers had to park up and run back down to help them. It took four of them to push it up to the next bend. Sorry but I couldn't help but say. "it's easier by push bike lads" as I spun past to a few chuckles. All was well. Just a bit of a limp for one of them.

I reached the top of Hardknott and was pleased it wasn't clagged in with cloud. As I was struggling to find a suitable perch for the camera for a photo, a kind bloke came up for a chat and offered to take it for me. We had an interesting talk of all things outdoors and bade each other farewell. The top of Hardknott Pass with Wrynose hidden behind meThe drop off looking towards WrynoseNow this downhill is not to be messed with. It is very steep and with some acute hairpin bends. Cars coming up do not stop due to the gradients. I set off with the brake levers firmly planted in my hands and trying hard to keep the speed down.

Down we go.I reached the worst of the hairpins and approached a bend that was full of gravel and potholes. To make things worse a car was labouring up from down below and seemingly not intent on giving me any room to manoeuvre . Another "kinel" moment was approaching as I couldn't tuck to the nearside as it was full of gravel. The brakes were rammed on as hard as I could and I stopped on the bend in the middle of the road right in front of the car's bonnet which had also stopped. "It's full of potholes and gravel here mate..!!", hoping for a bit more consideration from the driver. "Oh is it" replied the driver as we sidled past each other. Looking back up Hardknott
