Going to check out a large frame 520 flat bar going round the corner from the office, bloke is 6 5 and done the Prudential 100 on it recently so a) hopefully the couple of allen keys I've borrowed of a colleague will fit to lower the saddle and b) it isn't too knackered - doesn't look in bad nick and had a recent service, although note the forks are red rather than black, would this indicate it's an older version of the one I saw last night (and see more commonly) with black forks does anyone know? www.gumtree.com/p/bicycles/btwin-triban-520-flat-bar-large-bike/1350172312

Didn't even adjust the saddle, I knew I liked it high, must like it v high if I like it like a 6'5 man lol. Felt like a much better size/fit, but now can't work out if that was just because of the saddle compared to last night when I couldn't adjust it and was rigged for the shorter rider (who don't like their saddles especially high like me)..was trying to see how much toe clip I got from the front tyre (as was yesterday), couldn't tell difference too much though, assume I'm correct that this is more likely with a size too small?
Chain screwed up a little bit when riding, sorted out clicking through i assume no fundamental problem and if anything a miss could be put right..

Bike fit is a very individual thing. At a shade over 6ft I found the large size to be too big but I'm sure there have been other threads where shorter people have been happy with them. With a used Triban even if you change your mind you aren't risking a huge amount of money if you change your mind later.

Cheers Jon yes seems so, I've proposed to the chap selling the M that I try it again with a higher saddle on sat on the off chance it's still available and others dont get there first (not expecting that to happen though) and if ok will likely go for it as the cheaper price lower use and resultant great condition (and proof of purchase and kryptonite d lock and cable thrown in to boot) is frankly too good to pass up! The chap with the large had gad it since Jan so anticipate it would be at least third hand by now.

If you have the proof of purchase, the Decathlon warranty will transfer over (Well it did for me when I bought a 2nd hand one)

Ask the seller if they've been swapped?

I could do/could have done but if he's only had it since Jan maybe he wouldn't know, in any case I don't think I'm gona go for it would rather wait and keep my eye out to see if another bargain along the lines of the M that was going (99% likely to be sold tonight according to that seller) comes up again

hate to say it guys, i picked up a second hand 520 flat bar locally for £120 up here 2 weeks back. Now the caveat is that it is from the local cash convertors, But is is all running very well with little apparent wear. Ive changed saddle from stock one and put on an old rack. All is good notice it has a black fork and raddoneurs (28mm) . Might put some photos up later. In time. Ill convert it to drops Im sure ...
I had a T3a I bought in 2013 and sold 2016 which I had many a happy journey on. wasnt so keen on aggressive riding position and 23mm tyres but other wise brilliant.

Friend's got a 2016 kona esatto d 'adventure' bike that he's had for a few years but doesn't use, had a razz around North London on it with him yesterday morning and lunch time (inc supposedly steepest hill in ldn which I made it up despite being v unfit - whole body was pulsing for a few mins after 😆), definitely needs a proper service but would get it dirt cheap (£200ish), as an 'adventure' bike apparently has more relaxed geometry for comfort not that I can tell as everything seems racy relative to the Brompton.
Didn't think it was too bad, still v new riding those types of bikes but got into my groove easy enough and was fine on it, likely going to be a bargain too good to pass up..now thinking I could swag a cheap second hand 520 flat bar for town riding and use the kona for longer rides as still v keen on the flat bar after riding that large frame on Thurs eve.
Contemplating if the chap will let it go for cheaper if still available but tbf would love one that looks/feels in better nick (i.e chain doesnt screw uo when testing it lol) has done less miles and comes w/a proof of purchase like that other M one that was going (and moon on a stick pls 😆)
Here we are gone from getting a Brompton because my flat is too small for full size bike to potentially accommodatin another two bikes! smh

Was it one of the Kona Esatto on this link: 2016.konaworld.com/platform_esatto.cfmThe way to do a proper comparison of whether bikes are a bargain or not is to look at the weight and components. Just cos the cheapest Kona is £800 doesn't necessarily mean that its any better than the Triban 520s you were looking at.

Fair point Paul! The kona is the middle one, esatto 'd' for disk breaks (i.e. not ddl, fast, or the other generic one)
