Hi all,
Just completed my first month of triban usage and I'm loving it so far!
I have a 500 se with microshift triple, 24 gears.
Rear gears work perfect.
Front...not so perfect. Now, this could be me not adjusting them correctly but I am starting to think the front mech/lever may be faulty.
Mynissue us the frint mech catapulting through from the big ring, past the middle ring, down to the smallest ring in one click(ie it doest stop in the middle).
Why won't it stop at the middle ring?? Too much / little cable tension or is it to do with the inner and outer stop screws? I could take it to decathlon but I really want to learn how to fix it myself.
Thanks Adam

The limit screws won't have any affect here, they're there to stop the chain falling off the wrong side of the small or big rings. You don't want to touch these unless the chain is actually falling off the bike.
You say it jumps from big ring down to small in one step - how does it go the other way around? Does it jump easily enough to the middle and then big ring, or does it stall and sound like it's not quite seated properly?
There's a good chance your problem is due to cable tension, probably needs tightening a little. This is normal on new bikes and cables as they stretch, so find your tension adjuster and give it a few small turns. Have a look at what your front derailleur does when you turn the tension adjuster, you should see it moving left / right. Tightening moves it towards the big ring, loosening towards the small. You can try to visually align the derailleur with the rings, but it's normally just a game of trial and error until you can shift through the rings properly.

Setting up triples can be frustrating. Lots of useful advice on YouTube. I found that setting the lower limit screw to a minimum (If you're down that low in the gears a bit of chain rub is the least of you problems) and the cable only just taut is a good starting point. Also with Microshift there is a half click trim position between lower and middle on the way up only which can cause confusion. 4 clicks up, 3 clicks down. There used to be an issue with FD arms being bent from the factory.

Thanks very much for the tips guys, I will try out the adjustments later. Just to answer the qs...it changes up through the middle up to big bing absolutely fine, including the trim. Changing down is the only problem, one click from the outer big ring and WHOOSH...I'm down to the granny ring, having to make an imidiate upshift.

The limit screws can have an effect, if the upper limit is too tight it can prevent proper engagement (although it has moved to the big ring) and one click down will go straight to small.
A fault is also possible, although Microshift is usually very reliable I remember someone else posting on here a year or two ago with the same problem and had the shifter replaced under warranty.

Tried all the suggested tips but no avail, the mechanism only seems to downshift once (one click), so I will pop into the new dec athlon in Crawley once it opens.
Thanks again all.

How many clicks in total are you registering from being in small to getting to big? Should be a trim click, click to middle then click to big?

Yep, 4 clicks from small to biggest, but on the way down from biggest to smallest there is just 1 click and then woosh!...All the way thru to smallest ring.

I had the same issue. The one click on the way down is the key indicator. Replacing it is simple....getting your hands on a replacement less so, but I'm sure your local store will source it.

May be interesting to disconnect the fd and test the shifter up and down with just hand tension on the cable.

Happened to me also, turned out the shifter had broke, took the guy in decathlon 10 mins to fix.

I had the same happen with the Microshift rear shifter a few years ago. As suggested above, I proved this by disconnecting and applying light tension to the cable while shifting (i.e. removing the mech from the equation). Replaced under warranty by Decathlon, but I had to post the old one back to them (lived too far from the store from which I bought the bike).

I have a set of Microshift triple shifters from a T3A available if anyone needs them and is willing to cover postage cost.

I'm having similar issues with my left/front shifter on my 500SE. Pretty sure its a faulty shifter. Bought bike around 18 months ago online so not sure if I can take back to store or not. If you still have the spare shifters I'd be happy to take them off your hands
