This may be of interest to followers of this thread. I've just been followed on twitter by the organisers of this challenge for 2016. I hope they don't expect me to enlist. www.transeuropeanrace.com/twitter.com/TranseuroperaceThese challenge rides are all the rage now.

2015 transcontinental starts this weekend. I've been following this fb page so far to keep up with their preparations. This link shows the dots as they go along. A number of entrants have come back from last year, but noticeably winner of the 2 previous editions Kristof Allegaert is not (he is cycling across Russia atm I believe)

I've been following on facebook with admiration, a friend of mine is taking part again this year having taken part for the first time last year.
The tracking of riders gets obsessional at times just watching the dots.

Chris Bennett, the kiwi, is on the dot.watcher page already. As a warmup he has cycled from Turkey to Belgium. Presumably it was just cheaper to buy a return flight NZ-IST

Spooky timing for the return to Blighty on his part. Won't beleive the denials until they are off at the weekend.

One of them is doing on a fixie!!! He has 2 choices of gear: 42x15/42x19 that'll be serious hard work up the mountains... Ventoux on a 42x19... no thanks.

There was a guy last year who did three, maybe even four different ascents of Ventoux on a fixie all in one ride. Can't remember his gearing but the descents must have been as scary (and sapping) as anything having to keep the legs turning and full whack. EDIT: Sorry, just realised what thread I'm on. TCR on a fixie... insane!

Ultan Coyle is doing it on a TT bike. Earlier he was in the top 3 to reach the 40km gravel section. Looks like TT bikes aren't made for gravel. He's basically walked the entire 40km with slashed tyres, and the other 2 who he was near are now both halfway across Italy.
