I have a friend of a friend who I've met a couple of times in the race I've been tracking, he's number 7 (Nick Dodd). It looks like he's taking a "non-standard" route to the Stelvio. Allegaert is a machine, he's only been stopped for 8hrs 22 since 08:00 on Saturday. How do you know Dudd then?! I am also rooting for #7, in the hope that he gets further than last time, the lazy batardHe came on a couple of our evening rides. Usually having done about 100 miles first - How far did he get last time? I know his knee packed in. And his pedal is this time.

Look out for #99, Chris Dobbs or Dobbsy! He, like a few others, have had a bit of bother with Garmins as his crashed and then the Usb port snapped leading to him dropping back in the field as he went down the wrong valley. I've been told 13 of the riders have also had issues with theirs as well, I would have probably packed a couple of maps myself as well just incase.
I'd love to do it myself (if I ever was fit enough) but not on the bikes that some are doing it on! The second placed guy last time I checked is doing it on a De Rosa Super King. I know he's sponsored by their UK distributors, but with a large part of the journey going through some less well off countries, I'd be very wary of stopping in case the bike was nicked!

one of the riders who appeared to be stuck in Paris for quite some time, has miraculously appeared just outside Athens airport.
I guess a DQ is on the cards, but I guess the end of race party is worth it.

Nice video from a couple of guys in last year's event who were sponsored by Specialized www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m_X31xnG2A The link is to the first of at least 4 clips. Language is a bite ripe in places so take care if you have small people or other sensitive ears around.

Great line from the 2nd clip -
It feels like Stelvio took a part of my cycling soul - I want to get that back.
When you watch the clip you can see why!

The race for second place is really shaping up. 3 riders, two different routes. Have a feeling they may be cycling through most of the night too. In the 4th clip from the 2 guys who rode last year's race you get a description of what it's like riding all day and then all night and most of the next day. Some great lines in there "If you're lucky you get chased by a dog. That wakes you up for 20 minutes".

I told my wife I was thinking of doing this next year. She thought I was serious and told me to go for it. But will she lend you the Tom Tom...?

Just like the Tour, it's all about the other top spots. Shaping up to be an exciting finish.

One of the riders has been hit by a car, and is now in Verona Hospital with suspected broken leg.
Its not all fun and games.

I think another also had a spill with a car and suffered fracture ribs, unless it's the same rider and the body parts are crossed!
