I see they were posted about way back in Jan, when in Tiagra setup. Anyone any thoughts? These days I tend to compare everything to the nearest bTwin road bike which in this case would be the cheapest of the three Mach carbon set ups. With that in mind, if you are after a carbon frame with a good spec for a chunk under Β£1000 it's hard to argue with the Holdsworth I think. You could grumble that it's not 105 throughout but that would be a bit churlish for the price I reckon. A lot of bikes labelled as 105 seem to have FSA compact chain sets and many have another brand of brakes rather than the 105 brakes. I guess the colour scheme is not to everyone's taste but you could wear blue or red kit with it, or even mix colours to match the bike!

This looks decent for the money. Nice looking bike too. www.merlincycles.com/merlin-maven-road-bike-55803.htmlSora throughout... anyone have any experience of Merlin? I live in Manchester so I might take a trip up the M61 to take a look. Not sure about the wheels/tyres but I suppose at this price point there will always be something that needs upgrading - apparently the Mekk I was looking at has very dodgy brakes!

Never negate the benefits of visiting your LBS & getting to know them. Over the past year or so I've become friends with the owner of mine, which started as a result purely of the advice he gave and the fact he would price match or beat online. As a result he gave me an extremely good deal on my new bike - one that I never would have gotten if I'd taken the RRP as gospel when looking around.
Also don't underestimate the ability to actually sit and test ride the bike and see if you get on with the geometry/feel of the bike. If Decathlon is local to you (unfortunately my nearest is 40 miles away), then you pretty much can't go wrong in both the quality and VFM stakes. At least you will be able to test ride the bike too.
