I've tried Lidl shorts in the past but they didn't fit well and the shape of the pad wasn't comfortable. I'd rate the 500s well above Lidl and actually prefer them to my Β£50 Giordana ones. This may be subjective depending on fit though. Is the pad that thin though?

The pad on the Lidl shorts I have isn't too thin (they have bought out different ones over the years) if anything it's too thick and wide, possibly designed for a wider saddle. It's a personal thing (like saddles) but I think you can have too much padding (I don't like the latest Aldi gloves) and I find the 500s very comfortable. If you're happy with your saddle, you won't need gel padding, if not you may find it essential.

Lots of people seem to like the Aerofit 900's - what is the sizing like? The sizing charts aren't currently working on the Decca website.
As a 5 foot 11 bloke, 36ish inch waist, big rugby player thighs, what Size should I be looking at?

The size guide on the Decathlon site only works from some pages (none of the cycling ones as far as I can tell). Go onto this page and then click on the size guide: www.decathlon.co.uk/kapteren-crossover-trail-running-shoes-id_8276602.html

I'm 5'8", 34 waist, and would like to have an idea of what size to get.

I wear a L in standard bibs but would buy XL in aerofit (I wear XL in Giordana 'Italian' size)

I ordered some of the areofit 900s. They'll be my first ever pair of bibshorts, I was planning on getting shoes and pedals first, but what a bargain!
