I read this a while back, it's a fair review but I don't really read it as bike snobbery, saying that it can beat many a £700 - £1000 + ish bike is a good compliment, he mentioned 'the B'Twin isn't a giant killer' in terms of its weight, which is a fair point, if you use it to chase someone up a hill on a 7 kg bike, you'll know about it, so its fair comment (my buddy switches from a T3-red trainer/commuter to a carbon flashy thing and this is exactly my experience) ... re the other bikes still not being expensive, depends on your viewpoint I guess, he's a bike journo after all, it's his job to look at the full spectrum of bikes all day, they get a bit top end acclimatised no doubt.

Interesting that 25c tyres were fitted and that mudguards are still a problem.

The last sentence can me read to ways not sure what I intended. Either the bike snobbery that it's a cheap bike against the 2 or 3x the price. If the bikes that it matches / beats that are 2 or 3 times the price are still the cheep end of the manufacturers offerings.

There is one thing about that Triban frame. It is superb for lightweight touring. Made for it.

Just picked up a 500SE in the Reading, the mechanic there said he hadn't heard they were switching to Claris cranks. He reckoned the 500SE is pointless with Claris and you might as well just buy the 3 in that case. But he seemed to be basing that on the assumption that Claris is square b/b, but I think that is wrong? All Sora for the moment in store though. So basically £300 = Triban 3 Triban 500SE +£80 = carbon fork and Shimano Claris chainset future, but Shimano Sora chainset now Triban 500 +£150 (or £70 more) = Shimano Sora chainset, Shimano Sora derailleurs ( ?), Shimano Sora shifters So for now the extra £70/150 buys you the Sora shifters, Sora brakes, and presumably the Sora derailleurs also. Not sure about the cassette. wait, wait T5 and T3 are completely different beasts! one is grey and the other is white ....I've ridden both and the only difference in the real world is the carbon fork. Other things IMHO are maketing and frills. In my experience, Sora-Tiagra and Microshift are really equal in everything (someone could also appreciate the MS usability of the two buttons system...), probably also Claris chianset... and in the end, I don't like shimano enry level brakes, in every configuration (sora-tiagra-105, very similar, always acceptable, but not smooth) that said, T5 is very nice.
