I make a few flapjacks myself, they keep me going when you need just a little something. I don't snack on biscuits like I did up to 3-4 years ago and there are definitely some 'what'll I have until my dinner' moments. Sometimes they are nice a while after dinner, too, but they are very filling. I sometimes eat them with sliced strawberries or raspberries for a little diversion from the ordinary.
All ingredients from cycling goodies supplier... Dec... errr... Aldi.
250g oats 200g crushed hazelnuts 200g flaked almonds - some of these I break up and some left as is. 100g ground almonds - this is in place of 100g of dessicated coconut which I don't like the taste or texture of. Either or indeed both may be used. 150g honey 300g butter - That's real butter, not some processed spready crap, which you should not have in your house in the first place. 1-2g salt
Melt butter slowly and add in honey. Mix nuts and oats thoroughly. Heat oven to 175. Line cake tin with greaseproof paper and a smear of butter all around. Pour butter & honey mix into oats and coat thoroughly before filling cake tin, pressing firmly down and into all corners to ensure compactness. bake for 15-20 minutes, keeping an eye so they don't get overdone. Remove from heat and chill for 2 hours in the fridge to maintain shape.
It's tempting to try them straight out of the oven, but they'll just fall apart. Resist temptation and enjoy that satisfying crunchy oaty nutty filling goodness without all the guilt of highly processed blood-sugar spiking crap bought in the name of 'healthfood'
And before anyone points to the butter, I'll say butter is an essential fat. Look it up! Besides, the 'low-fat' theory hasn't worked for the last 40 years, why should it work now? Low carbs is what we need to be thinking of. The honey does sweeten them, but not excessively. I used 225g in the previous batch and felt it was too much, so I toned it down. All measurements are open to experimentation and taste. So anyone who may try these is welcome to give their comments, opinions and recommendations for improvements. Hope the adventurous among you enjoy them.

Did a bit of carp fishing before selling all my kit to buy my triban!. Have 5year old daughter & 7year old son who also keep me busy(drive me mad at times). Also training my 6 month old cocker spaniel. Amazing mate, i trained my springer til i snapped my ankle. So rewarding when things go right, brutal when they don't!! Nothing better than walking through a park with your dog at heel and everyone stopping to admire. Dogs and football for me.

That's spaniels for you mate, my springer's exactly the same. They work out very quickly what they can get away with and who they can get away with!
