Here is the place to post your experiences with buying something cheap that looked a really good deal when you were in a shop or online, but turned out to be a bit of a disaster later.
I will have a few postings and I know from other threads, you have stories to tell that deserve a proper home.

I bought some SPD shoes from Aldi for £20 in a nice White & Red (Triban) combo. They look great...until you get them slightly dirty, as the white is predominantly textile. However, this is not the major problem with them. I rode them 3 times with my new SPD pedals on (12 miles, 15 miles & 35 miles). On the third occasion when peddling up hill, I felt something snap on the shoe. The metal strap retainer broke in half! I will take them back for a refund, but there is no way am I buying another pair as I have no confidence in them lasting a long trip. I have already ordered a pair of these in White & Red Triban Combo from Evans, so hopefully will have a better time: www.evanscycles.com/products/spiuk/zs11m-mtb-shoe-ec043243I also found an Evans code, £5 off a £20 spend ECWEL5P. Don't know how long it will last, but it worked today.

I got some of those, seem OK to be honest. they replaced a two year old pair that were fine till the new dog ate them.I did read somewhere of someone doing a few thousand k in theirs. Maybe consistency is the fly in the ointment. Anyway Lidl bike chain cleaner £2.99. Rubbish. It's got one job to do and fails. Miserably. Still, only £2.99 wasted I now stick to degreaser soapy water and brushes

Most of the things I've thought were a bargain in Aldi/Lidls bike events have turned out pants.
Replaced me Aldi track pump (really poor) with a BTwin (£25)track pump and it's premier league compared to sunday league in comparison.
I've also bought Aldi's water proof compact jacket (sleeves are about 2" short and it's like wearing a sweat suit) and their leggings which fit ok but for some reason the padding feels horrible.
I have had some good bit though, the leg warmers and waterproof trousers were both good.

got ma pair of aldi gloves that ive had for about 4 years, originally bought when i needed a pair but was on the rock and roll, ive got btwin, LG and some exotic kangaroo skin ones and the best ones are aldis, comfy durable a bit tatty now but still working well, stink like sh** though but 5 star plus for them
got an aldi rainproof foldaway, brilliant, glasses - bargain, shorts - ok - but buy bibs instead
but they are hit and miss, the arm and leg warmers - pants after first couple of wears, computers - best thing about them is the guarantee - guff, pumps - rubbish
wouldnt buy shirts from there though, just wait for rad to finish THE DESIGN!

I agree, the gloves from Aldi are first class. I bought an extra pair last time, even though I don't need them yet. Also agree about the pumps. I have posted about my pump saga on another thread. I have three so far, cheap ones from different retailers. All of them are going back! My wife told me to buy a proper one in the first place! The Aldi foot pump hardly works over 80psi, the frame bent and air came out of the back. Took it back last week! The one thing I would say for Aldi, keep your receipt and if anything goes wrong (3 years for non-clothing), they just give you your money back. The Lidl track pump broke a valve and then the adaptor fell off. Took that back. My Wilkinson track pump hardly works...so I am on the look out for a decent one! For pumps, it is buy cheap, buy thrice!

I got a Aldi track pump a few years back, it's lasted me up until last week. Can't really complain about getting a few years use out of it for a fiver. Picked up a new one from Decathlon for £25, must say it's so much better. I did get the arm warmers last time they were on offer and after just a few outing i've noticed they've stretched a little so can't see them lasting too long.

Copied from another Thread: "It really can be a false economy sometimes. I needed a light folding waterproof for a sportive the next day because the waterproofs i have are a bit heavy and i would have had to wear them for the entire ride, and i didn't fancy paying £40-60 in Evans, so the day before I picked up one that was reduced to £10 but it was a little tight, so i got another, which i didn't really like - another £10. I took this one to the sportive, and didn't use it. Following Week, Aldi special offers day, I picked up another one, tried it in the shop, fitted fine. Now up to £30 First time i used it on the bike i discovered the arms were too short!!! I now have another that i picked up for £20 (reduced from £40), this one, Im happy with, though i wish it would wrap up a little smaller £50 gone! I may as well bought one from Evans! The Annoying thing is my Missus encouraged me to buy the first 2, even though i kept saying I don't want to end up spending a fortune!"

I love this post, I seem to have many situations like this and my wife always tells me I should have spent more in the first place.

Zaffiro's are pretty good considering how cheap they are, the standard ones are £7.99 each.
