I've got a pair Shimano R088. Β£60 from Tweeks. Very nice road shoes. I'm using them with M520 pedals and standard cleats however I've now purchased some white Exustar pedals that come with SL cleats. I hope to notice the difference on longer rides. Would be interested to hear whether you do find a difference. I've been researching this and it seems with good shoes, the difference between SPD and SL is reduced. The difference I found between the two was with the spd's the point of pressure was more concentrated on the axle of the pedal where as the sl's although only marginally have a bigger platform and spread the force more evenly.

For longer distances and frequency you shouldn't be thinking of cutting corners on shoes. Very important your feet are, they can cause a lot of pain, the wrong shoes may even become dangerous clipping in/out of pedals. As noted by the other comments - this is were the power delivery actually happen, so your shoes has got to be stiff to transfer the power 100% to the pedals any less and you are losing power. Believe me buy the best you can afford and your feet will thank you! I have a pair Shimano R105 and I don't even know they are on my feet. They are that light and air goes right through them - need to get some over shoes haven't made up my mind yet. Wise words, Whitestar. I really didn't want to spend a lot of money on a pair of cycling shoes but bit the bullet and I'm very glad I did. I bought a pair of wide fit Shimano R170's and it was money well spent. Hopefully they will last me many years.

Hi All, firstly I own actriban and been riding since a year, must say I fall more and more in love with the bike with every passing mile. I bought the road shoes along with the bike from Decathalon and was quite happy with the shoes quality, price and performance , after couple of months I bought the Vittoria road shoes for Β£200 , excellent shoes with boa lacing system with all weather shoes she'll stiff carbon sole looks absolutely amazing and performs equally week ! But to my amazement Btwin road bike shoes was no different at all in performance and it's good looks . So bikers looking for good shoes at less than half the price and have no brand hang ups pls do go to Decathalon and try their road bike shoes. I am ia B'Twin products fan for sure . Good luck and happy miles in your bike mate!
