I've never removed my chain either and never lubed it. Just occasional clean with WD40 like in the GCN 5 minute clean.

What's with this Km schizzle? Real cyclists ride in miles. 3,500 miles on each of my HG600 chains with no real wear <1/32" they do seem to be much better quality than the KMC X8.93 I previously used.

You're fortunate then, looks like weight is a factor (?), seems to make sense. Can't fathom any scientific reason why a quick soak in white spirit would affect things, it's not corrosive to such an extent it would wear a chain. I note op is riding on an xl frame - bit presumptuous but doubt he's a 65 kilo stick insect.

... and as for Miles v Kilometres, I once worked with a surveyor who used feet and inches, and it's still fairly common to hear them referenced in building environment but it's the other way round for cycling - quite like the old method for say describing '2 by 4s' etc, as more tangible than metric but if you submit a non decimation drawing to a UK local authority planning dept these days, then they won't register your application due to EU regularisation. Quite how our roads were deemed exempt is beyond me, I guess driving on the left and using miles are bastions for UKiP supporters ?

Nothing exact or scienific but I've been really impressed with how long the 10s Tiagra chain lasted on my brother's bike compared to 8/9s on his other and my bikes. I imagine the fact that it's narrower means running out of line causes less wear than on a wider chain? I'm no UKIP supporter but it's miles and pints for me (well, unless I'm on an audax ride), maybe just an age thing
