Hi all,
after my recent purchase of a Triban 520 a friend of mine is looking at the B'TWIN ALUR 700 ROAD BIKE.
Has anyone got one of these? They look pretty well spec'd out, any opinions/ experiences welcomed.
thanks.

Hi @silentmajority. There are a number of folk on the forum who have picked up an Alur, especially with them being on sale over the last few months. As william39 points out, you can do a search across the forum for any posts with "Alur" in them, and you will find plenty of comment and views on the bike. My feeling is that, despite one or two teething problems around initial set up, most of our Alur owners simply can't believe they have such a great bike for the money.

Tell him to buy it immediately. I still have a massive grin on my face every time I ride mine (except for when my lower back pain kicks in (nothing to do with the bike)).

Read a few of the other threads and the feedback on this thread. Feel like swapping mine for one too now

I think your 520 is potentially the best all rounder in the BTwin stable by far, and possibly in a much wider stable of rides too.

very reassuring! Thanks.
One thing I noticed when I raised the saddle height was a long scratch on the upright tube for the saddle. Its purely cosmetic but a little annoying as the bike is brand new. Is this common? Should I speak to the Decathalon about it?

I wanted an Alur but the online hs sold out in all but S and XS. There's a few lying around some stores (e.g Southampton). Or wait for the 540 - same price

Hi silentmajority,
I have an Alur 700. It's a cracking bike. I like the compact feel of the frame and the handlebars and I think the wheels are very good. I bought a pair of Mavic Aksiums for another bike, at the same time I bought the Alur and I think the wheels supplied are better than the Mavics. They roll and roll and roll. I've done some long rides on it including an all dayer and it was very comfortable.
I found the gearing adequate for some extreme (for me) gradients ie bits of 20%, taken slowly. It just rides nicely. However, it can't take mudguards or a rack so it's a particular type of ride the Alur. Your 520, as others have indicated, is a great all rounder and has many qualities of it's own that I'm envious of. Enjoy your riding. (PS You can adapt and upgrade your bike too in time as the wheels come to the end of their time after a few thousand miles etc)
