In the end I went for Mavic Aksiums from Decca - Here's my thought process: 1. I'm rather thrifty. (Go for 501s or 2024) 2. I fancy upgrading to an 11spd compact (Rules out R501) 3. I am a large fellow and needed something that could cope with my weight. I wanted a strong rather than a light wheel. I have broken two wheels, which Decca have replaced under warranty without argument. I'm not sure whether I could get things sorted so quick if I bought from an online seller. Also, all the reviews I have read say the R501 is excellent value for money but the Aksium or its Btwin copy are more robust. (Go for 2024 or Aksium from Decca) 4. I wanted a set of wheels to commute in all weather. I don't have time to keep servicing them. Cartridge bearings appealed to me (Go for 2024 or Aksium) 5. I want to buy a 'cheap' carbon bike if I lose another 3 stones. I have my eye on a Mach 720 perhaps. That will potentially come with 2024 wheels. If I bought 'better' this time, the 2024 wheels could go onto the 'winter hack' and 'better' wheel onto the Mach. (Go for Aksium) 6. I want to be quick. The Decca Aksiums have a splash of red on them. (SOLD! )
