Comfort. If you get a pair of bibs that fit then the pad stays in the right place and doesn't shift around. There's also no waist band to dig in which is a massive plus when in the saddle all day.

There is also the fact when wearing bibs you are less exposed to wafts of air up your back.
The only downside of them is the rather convoluted process when you need to take an ahem, natural break.

Once you try bibshorts you wont go back to shorts.

I wear either and on a really hot day its shorts for better cooling. You have to be a natural athlete to pull it off though as nobody likes a muffin top - especially the laydeez

A year ago, I was in the same position, I'd not used bibs. I got a pair almost by accident when they were in a planet-X flash sale. Despite not having a great pad, and not being, even mainly, black I wore them all the time (including a 115miles day), and have slowly acquired more and better bibs. I'm not looking back, I used to find the shorts would slip a little, especially once at 30miles+ this was a problem for the gentleman's area, that just doesn't happen with well fitting bibs.
I still wear the old shorts on the turbo though, where I'm less likely to be going for as long, but wouldn't buy more.

I bought some recently, they're a lot more comfortable than I thought they would be and as others have said no digging in of the waistband like you get with shorts and no danger of exposing the builders bum!

my main reason for bibs is the waistband issue
