Anyone see Hammond crash his Dogma F8 tonight? I cringed when I saw that he was going to ride parallel, then along a tram track. That and riding 2ft away from parked cars added up to some poor riding and the inevitable crash.

Was it a custom made one with 650 wheels for the little short arse? We used to have a saying in my car club that anyone could go fast in a straight line. That's another epic fail for him as well as the drag strip at Elvington.

I had similar thoughts concerning his ineptitude. Reminded me of an occasion on tour with Stan the man that can. On this occasion he couldn't. We were crossing over a railway bridge into Bosnia and as we rounded the bend at the far side he came off when he got caught in the rails. He was led on the ground clutching his bloodied elbow as I went about picking up the remains of his front light and some contents from his bar bag. "Call yourself a Fleetwood lad", I said as he scowled back at me. We have tram tracks that run down our High Street and it is custom and practice for all youngsters to learn at an early age that you only have to fall off once on them before learning the first painful lesson in your early cycling life. After we cleared the Bosnian security checks on the border we were then chased at high speed by a pack of dogs. That was the icing on the cake for him but we did have a good chuckle about it over a brew later that morning. I've got some photo's somewhere. Here you go... Stan just before the crash The big wuss after his crash The border crossing and a warm welcome from the locals Stan after a bit of sympathy. He didn't get any. Only a bit of p#ss taking and a brew.

I watched the Patagonia special before last night's show. Awesome and rugged. Roads look perfect for an exped touring bike.
I later watched Walking the Nile and the guy's hassle with the security threats when travelling through Egypt. Looking over his shoulder all the time as his anxious police escort ensured he got to the Med with his head attached to his body.
I'll be giving Egypt a miss in the short term.

Does nobody think that the Hammond crash might have been "staged" to spice up the story a bit. I didn't see any road rash and they could have just undone the mech hanger to make it look broken. I don't believe that Clarkson's hovercraft was as unmanageable as he was making out either. I love the show but it ceased to be much about motoring years ago. The Argentina odyssey was brilliant. Some of the scenery was breathtakingly beautiful but don't tell me that it was necessary to keep going off road into deserts, swamps snowfields etc. It was just done for entertainment

It'd put some people off touring in Patagonia for life if they thought they had to go through all that.

Hammond obviously rides a bike about as well as he drives a car - badly. ;-)
Can't help feeling that the Top Gear format is becoming increasingly stale?

No doubt Top Gear is well past it's sell by date but the viewing figures suggest differently. I don't see why they would have staged this particular accident though. He was moving as a fair pace and did come down quite heavily.

Hammond is a better cyclist than that I think.
The Merida he swapped to wasn't 'Rissian Pig-Iron' was it!

He appeared to be riding well and I find it hard to believe he accidentally went into the tram lines which are in the centre of the road. The Merida, apart from the grubby cassette, didn't look too bad either. All a bit stage managed IMHO. I recorded the programme and will have another look later.

Top Gear is basically a rewrite of Men Behaving Badly.

Top Gear is basically a rewrite of Men Behaving Badly. So true, although I doubt Martin Clunes and Neil Morrisey ever got paid the extortionate sums they pay those clowns, nor get to drive supercars for free?!
.....yes, saucer of milk for me! ;-)

I enjoyed the episode. I can't believed he rode into the tram line unknowingly. All scripted IMHO. I didn't even see any road rash either yet his bike was badly damaged - really strange. Only reason I watched was for the bike. Love the F8. Really Β£9 grand? Thought it was more.
