... do you ride with dust caps on? I've heard various reasons for and against over the years but am still left unsure which way makes most sense - so what do you think?

Never. I always heard that tubes only came with dust caps to prevent the valve from puncturing the tube during transit. To me they are just one more fiddly thing to deal with at the side of the road if I puncture, especially annoying with cold hands.

Apparently, Sheldon Brown says they're superfluous on the bike, suggesting that they're just there to protect the inner when packaged / rolled up but not really necessary when riding - I use them on my road bikes but have long since lost them off my MTB; I am two minded whether to lose them from my road bikes or not.

Parallel post! Wonder if they offer any protection in use? Will they guard against valve damage or is this never going to happen / if it did, the spokes would be mullered at the same time type scenario so not worth worrying about?

Always on. Unlike a Schrader valve they don't act as a secondary seal but they keep the dirt off the valve. Consider blowing up a tube with a dirty valve and some dirt gets blown into the valve and stops it sealing. You have a slow P*******. I might take them off for a hillclimb though

My valves aren't ever covered with mud ! ... actually, I struggle to recall them ever getting that gunked up, as they're spinning inside the spray line.

I always have my caps on, but never use the tube retaining nut that comes with new tubes as I've found them to be a real pain to unscrew when fixing a flat.

I use Michelin UltraLight with smooth valves so not an issue for me. While I'm on the details, anyone sussed a decent way to clean rims other than with a good scrub with a washing up pad?

Always, think matching colors look good hence red on T3a and blue on the Vitus...

Soft brush and Muc-off but don't scrub or it smears, just dab as you want bubbles. More surface area on bubbles lifts it off. Leave for a while and do another part of the bike then rinse and repeat. Worked on my motorbikes and works on my white wheels when I bother.

I keep caps on just because they are there more than anything and suppose stops dirt on valve. However if lost one certainly wouldn't worry
