A thread for any cycling news that you might want to share with the members. Interesting, funny, educational.... whatever. I'll start with the news that the word MAMIL has finally made it into the Oxford English Dictionary. MAMIL's are an endangered species in Australia according to stats. They keep ending up in hospital much like our middle aged motorcyclists. www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/latest-news/mamils-pedal-dictionary-endangered-species-147807

So it looks like Auckland is embracing cycling infrastructure and putting in various cycleways around the city, without all the anti-cyclist rants that seem to accompany it when they talk about similar thing in London. This is not only the newest cycleway in Auckland, but is also on my route to work at.govt.nz/cycling-walking/auckland-cycle-run-walkway-maps/beach-road-cycleway/A couple of other routes on the left hand of the page, I have been on already, the Takapuna to Devonport green route (including a quite long bridge/boardwalk over mudflats), and the Northwestern cycle route (riding alongside the existing Northwestern motorway. And in 1-2 years, we expect out Harbour Bridge to have some attachments, and then cyclists and walkers will be able to cross (albeit for a fee) some pics here: transportblog.co.nz/2014/12/08/skypath-consent-publicly-notified/One of the things that could do with improving, is that shared paths aren't really that well signposted. They need to get something like the UK blue shared path signs on every second lamppost imo. Otherwise, it just feels like you are riding on any old normal footpath, and in many cases without a line down the middle.
