By comparison, my Garmin has only just started being able to download 'courses' again, there were a few weeks where the website said no (wasting my time planning runs and couldn't get the Sportive routes transferred as done previously) - no explanation to be found on line as to why it just kept telling me to try later, no response from support, just suddenly decided to work again ... I reckon they could learn a few things from IP. Do you realise you can manual copy the course file to your Garmin's "new files" folder

How are you getting the .fit file off Garmin?

... their course planner I mean. To be honest I don't use garmin connect for planning as their planner routes me the wrong way around roundabouts! I use ridewithgps.com for route planning and then after editing the turn by turn cues export the fit file and pop that in to the new files folder on the garmin You can also use Garmin Basecamp on your computer(standalone app not a website) for course designing and then send to the device from there but my preference is still ridewithgps.com

... lol ... what with popping in the 'do you realise' banter, I thought you'd sussed it ! As far as I can see, Garmin are very cagey about allowing downloads for circulation, once it's on the device, it's easy enough to copy it about but getting it down to the desktop, when the 'send to device' function is playing silly, is not something I've been able to suss - there's a post or two out there showing an additional function to export files that simply isn't there on the web site I'm using (for me anymore anyway?). I'm not that bothered though, as I don't meet hills that I can't climb anymore but it's just a bit odd and comes over as a bit shifty - it's working again now though.

I've never been able to save routes from the Garmin connect site, or upload a route I've planned on the Strava route builder either.

Never tried Strava, Garmin route planner I quite like, it has its faults but when it's working it's good - nice to follow the green trails, which show up on the popular routes, you just need to watch it when it takes you off road/ It's done that a few times when I've been further afield (wrong side of Caerphilly Mountain at ToB, a vicious stone riddled sheep drover's trail outside Bath and about 1/4 of my trip to the ferry to France last summer was on a bridleway - should drop in and check the route from street view really).

Having read this thread I thought I'd give the app a try. Blimey, there's a lot to get your head around stats wise! Anyway, did a turbo session with it tonight. It found my bluetooth HRM and Speed/Cadence sensors and recorded the sesson fine.
I then uploaded it to Strava and either IpBike or Strava made a right dogs breakfast of it, reducing a 40min, 10 mile workout to a 10 minute 1.25 mile one! Disappointing.

Mine uploads fine, using .tcx exported to Dropbox, then a desktop transfer and upload (reduces glitches) - also need to tick the stationary trainer button to get it set right - slews all the Club stat's but it's winter, so no biggie. app.strava.com/activities/250028600 - may need to click a button or two to look for the data (no HRM of course). I suppose it was a bit of a departure Rocket , but on the other hand, all part of the big picture when assessing bang for bucks with GPS / Data Logging on phone or Garmin, so not too far off piste. FWIW, I was contemplating trainer road but haven't found the need, cadence and GCN vid's are fine for a workout - also have The Musketeers on screen two, a proper good evening blow out works wonders after too long working on a computer all day. ipBike is pretty versatile, like anything, a bit of creativity and you can find a way to make it work well to its strengths.

Did you create a bike profile and select indoors/stationary? Can you view the whole session data from within IpBike? If so then it's done it's job and I would be thinking Strava is the problem. Strava is not good at handling indoor training sessions as it gets no changing GPS data for distance and does not use wheel speed sensors - plenty users complain about this yet they do not add support. My current approach is to upload my indoor sessions to a separate Strava account so I can view my heart rate and cadence data but then I create a manual entry on my main Strava account for my indoor bike to preserve my stats timewise.

I'll just go through and click all turbo work to private at some point when the turbo is hung up in spring.

Thanks guys, looks like it might be user error causing the upload issue. I'll have a proper look at the settings today. Really want this to work as its so comprehensive!

Rather makes sense, I could last summer just about manage a 10 mile TT at 171bpm, but if I got as high as 174 for more than a few seconds, I was cooked. I'm much fitter though now, and struggle to get he HR as high as then, not tried an outright 10mile blast recently, but suspect I'd struggle to sustain >165 for long, but reducing heart rate is a sign of improved fitness and my resting HR is a lot lower.
