Those of you using this to record your rides may well be aware of the growing discrepancy between your rides as recorded by Strava and your bike computer. Distance is exactly the same but moving time is a fair bit higher for Strava leading to a recorded lower average speed Having been in touch with Strava they pointed me to the settings menu where there is a tick box to disable auto-pause. Don't know why I didn't think to look for something like this myself, doh! I shall be testing this on future rides to see what the difference is. Strava themselves do not think this will make any difference as they say it is just to make sure that the application displays numbers based on moving time rather than elapsed. Once a ride is uploaded the necessary adjustments are made and should come out the same.

I record all my rides with Cyclemeter and export them out to Strava, Strava always adds more time to my ride therefore brings down the avg speeds.

I've noticed the garmin connect/strava upload times have widened - used to lose about 0.1mph from my speed when I uploaded to strava - last however many rides since they 'tweaked' their software I lose 0.2mph between garmin connect and strava.
My ride on Monday below - not a major issue but it's a little annoying to think your going along at one pace when reading the garmin out on the road to find it changes after.
Strava 12.1mi Distance 39:27 Moving Time 459ft Elevation Speed 18.4mi/h Garmin 12.09 39:02 459 18.6

You have to crop the start/end of your rides as it doesn't auto pause.
I get to work and it says 14.4mph average, I crop the beginning - Until I reach the road, and the end (time spent locking up bike etc) and then my average is like 16+ atm.
So it's just getting rid of those crappy bits at the beginning and end of the ride that are crap.

Well the roadworks you just go offroading and deal with them. Traffic lights it just doesn't pause and sucks the life out of your avg speed. Cafe stops...never had one of those, they sound interesting. Punctures...never had one in 700 miles so far...

I think some of you may be missing my point. When I first started recording my rides the Strava log was within seconds of my bike computer. Now its over a minute out yet I have changed nothing and I do the same routes religiously. I suspect that the threshold Strava use to define not moving has been changed and I have asked this precise question. Awaiting an answer.
As I suspected, turning off the auto-pause feature has not made any difference and Strava said as much.

Well let's hope we get to the bottom of it and they fix auto pause!

I'm using a Garmin 200 now. I rarely stop on rides but a few times recently I have stopped for about a minute either to zip up my jersey at the top of a climb or open a cereal bar and have noticed this hasn't registered on Strava, ie. elapsed time the same as moving time. Apparently there is an auto pause feature on the Garmin but I haven't set that up. Not sure if it is a good idea or not?

Apparently there is an auto pause feature on the Garmin but I haven't set that up. Not sure if it is a good idea or not? Easy to set up and you can set a speed threshold for the auto pause to kick in. To set up you do as follows; settings -->auto pause. Then you have x3 options; 1 - custom speed, this can be set from 0.1mph to >20mph 2 - when stopped, you stop = Garmin goes into auto pause mode 3 - off, turns the feature off if you previously selected option 1 or 2 I've found the feature to not work perfectly 100% of the time with my Garmin. My commute has plenty of forced stops and when I was using the 'when stopped' auto pause mode, the Garmin would sometimes records me as moving at 0.1 mph when stationary and not pause the recording. I've now set the unit to auto pause with a custom speed of 0.2mph. Not sure if the timings are accurate as I only record ride on my Garmin unit. Roy - is there a discussion forum on Strava? If there is it might be worth posting on there to get some support as it seams like a common problem. Personally a ride being a couple of point something's mph out does not bother me but can see how it could be irritating when riding the same route and comparing data. edit - has anyone elses Strava gone funny regarding distance ridden year to date and all time? Mine is showing as 126 miles ytd and 126 all time? All other ytd and all time stats look correct :S

Just done a 20 mile ride.
Uploaded from my Bryton GPS. The Bryton recorded the moving time as 1hr 03m and 42secs
Once uploaded to Strava, Strava had added to the moving time at 1 hr 04 m 29 secs.

Aparently my Android phone has a chipset that does ANT+, but them motorola haven't "activated it" in the firmware... but I can do that by using cyanogenmod (with a minor tweak) anyone got any experience of installing that? I'm quite a tech nerd, so probably capable, but some of the steps don't entirely make sense and reluctant to risk knackering my phone.

I've installed it a few times on older android mobiles (Orange San Francisco) and it worked a treat . Far better than the stock android firmware at the time. Head over to the relevent websites and forums for the know how. There are usually comprehensive guides detailing how to go about it. There is a CyanogenMod Installer nowadays which should simplify things. www.cyanogenmod.org/I believe a Chinese company actually have a deal with Cyanogen to install their firmware from new.
