Hi! I am the proud owner of a Cycle Scheme voucher for a new set of wheels and am very keen on the Triban 500. Was in my local Dec' store on Wednesday& whilst one has been ordered they are unable to even provide an estimated delivery date. So....would it be worth while altering the order to a Triban 500SE and forego the Sora set for the Microshift etc as they have the 500SE in stock in my frame size? or is it worth waiting for the 4+ weeks for the full 500 to arrive? Would the hugely grateful for your advice! Many thanks, Bob.

Decathlon supply issues are legendary!!
The easy answer is take what they've got, and you will be happy with it. But if you want your original choice, PHONE every Decathlon to check their stock (the computer lies) and you might find one. The other option is to cross your fingers and wait.
Whichever route you choose, they are nice bikes, you will be pleased with the bike.
Sometimes " a bird in the hand" applies!!!

A lot of owners, will either upgrade their components or get a N+1. If in a year or so, you upgrade to Tiagra or 105, the end result from both starting points will be virtually the same..........

Many thanks for all of your advice - very much appreciated! Looks like I shall pop down to my local Dec' and have a ride on the 500SE....also am a bit concerned that through the voucher I must wait for all items to be available at the one time, and fear a wait for "a plantary alignment that only occurs every 500 years..." Will update!

Agree with above. If new to cycling then either a- you'll end up not using it much so measure get one they've got or b- you'll ride plenty in first year, get fitness up, learn what type of rides you enjoy and probably end up upgrading some of the components anyway so irrelevant which you choose.

Hi all, Huge thanks for all of your suggestions and advice. i should have said earlier - have returned to cycling after a 10 year gap via a 2nd hand Raleigh Pioneer town bike (feels like a frame made from lead but very comfy!) - so the Triban would be my very first proper road bike. Popped down to local Dec' store in Glasgow Braehead (have almost been living there since it opened) and tried a 500SE 57 frame. one thing lead to another and.... Just back from a 15mile shake down on my brand new 500SE Absolutely delighted - bike must be close to half the weight of the Pioneer, handles really well even in the rain we're having here and brakes grandly. Can't believe how much power I can get down and so much more efficiently - without really pushing it all have significantly increased my average speed with no more effort. And the extra bonus - with the saving made over the full 500 on the Cycle Scheme voucher, I was able to also purchase a 2nd Sold Secure lock (the new Abus Bordo folding cassette lock and better quality panniers. Sorted. And tomorrow heading on a pre-planned cycle trip to the Ayrshire coast to get the ferry from Largs to cycle round Cumbrae (hopefully in the sun). So all grand advice, and well followed. Grinning from helmet strap to helmet strap PS Have been trying to upload a photograph (even tired reducing in size to 170K but no joy...) is this because I am a new member?
