Anyone else following it? They started on Westminster bridge on Saturday morning, and they have 2 weeks to get to Istanbul. Kristof Allegaert, who won it last year, is 250km ahead of 2nd place atm. He is already in Croatia whilst most of the pack are still in the Alps. www.transcontinentalrace.com/

Thanks KiwiBeard. Wow, that's some challenge. It's clearly a tactical race. Nifty little animation on the website to show a time lapse view of their progress. Interesting to see the contestants take different routes across the channel and then across France before funneling into the Alpine valleys. And cunning of the organizers to send them up the Stelvio, just to remind them they are in the Alps after all. I'm not sure how much sleep some of them get!

I think the current leader is only sleeping 4 hours at a time. Some others I have looked at appear to be stopped/sleeping for 10 hours. I also saw on the fb page something about one guy who had to backtrack for 100km for some passport issue. Eish.

I have a friend of a friend who I've met a couple of times in the race I've been tracking, he's number 7 (Nick Dodd). It looks like he's taking a "non-standard" route to the Stelvio.
Allegaert is a machine, he's only been stopped for 8hrs 22 since 08:00 on Saturday.

Following it as well because an old school friend is taking part, Lee Pearce - Rider no 29. I've got nothing but respect for him as I couldn't imagine doing that sort of distance over approx 2 weeks.

Looks like the control car also has a tactical race - deciding when to leave the brevet point at the top of Stelvio in order to get to the next one in Montenegro before the man-machine. They put it on top of another mountain by the look of it!

When you put the weather overlay on the tracker map you can see that sunshine is "just" a valley away...

Looks like your friend is here on strava, alas he hasn't uploaded any of his TCR rides www.strava.com/athletes/491416918 months of 'riding hard' to ride the TCR. I guess I won't being doing next years one then

I would read this first Gavin: reportage.transcontinentalrace.com/?page_id=99Most of it is a summary of last year's TC. Amazing tales in there. I love the reference to feral riders, especially the guy who, after multiple attempts to repair a puncture ended up ripping up his t-shirt and stuffing that into the tyre instead. Top tip there for @davefy7 if he ever gets caught short out in the wild. Right - got to tear myself away from this thing!
