Hi,
recently I've purchased B'TWIN's 700 road cycling shoes: www.decathlon.co.uk/700-road-cycling-shoes-id_8315398.html
As this is one of the more expensive shoes offered for road cycling by Decathlon, I thought some users may be interested in a little hands on for this shoes. Please forgive my english, it is not my nativ language
First, compared to other shoes with similar features these are still incredible cheap. Comparable shoes may cost you up to twice as much. The shoes have a carbon sole, a clean and beautiful design and two 'micrometric' fasteners. They are also very light compared to my old entry level Shimano shoes. The shoes are well made and look much more expensive than they are.
Impressions from my first ride:
The fit is excellent for my feets, I bought them at UK size 9.5. At first I feared the shoes would be a little bit to large, but after a few miles they felt just right. The 'micrometric' fasteners make up for a super tight fit. Don't get me wrong, this is exactly what I'm excepting from a good cycling shoe. The ventilation is good but could be better. At a day with 27Β°C temperature I wished they had more. The sole is very rigid also which helps you to transfer more power into the pedals.
But the shoes also have a little downside. First, the markings for the mounting points for the cleats are quite useless. On both shoes the markers had different offsets which rendered the adjustment of the cleats very difficult.
Second, this shoes are not designed for frequent stoping with your bicycle or you will wear out the front of the carbon sole quite fast. The position of the rubber bumper at the front is about half an inch to far away from the front to give any protection. As most of you know, when sitting on a bicycle with a proper seat hight only your toes will touch the ground. With this shoes this means you will scratch the front of the carbon sole. After my first ride I covered the front of the sole with black tape and sealed it with a little bit of floor wax to give at last a little bit protection to the front.
So I have mixed feelings about this shoes. At the upside, once the cleats are adjusted, the shoes are certainly an improvement from my old Shimanos. They are lighter, more rigid and have a tighter fit. And not to forget, as the look very good you look and feel faster on your bike On the downside I'm a little bit worried about the durability. As autumn is coming I may put on my shoe covers on earlier than with other shoes.
I hope I could help some users with this little hands on! Feel free to ask any question about this shoes
