I had my first real bike accident on Monday. Cycling into a headwind on my way to work i had my head down for some reason and i thought i had picked a good line but I hadnt and hit the back of a parked car. I was only doing about 10mph but I face planted the rear screen of the car and my cycling glasses were shoved into my cheeck with enough force to cut in and leave a good flap of flesh hanging off and a nice bit of blood to boot. I had a paramedic attend and take me to hospital, 4 hours and 8 stitches later and i now resemble Leatherface from the texas chainsaw massacre. All nhs staff were amazing and im glad the dhb glasses stayed in 1 piece and didnt shatter to cause more issues. Its not put me off cycling but its amazing to see what effect a small lapse in concentration can have, im still amazed it happened as im usually good with traffic and i'd got a few pbs on strava before that. So be careful out there folks and stay focused on what's coming up or you could get one of these:

D'oh!!!!
Hope you have a swift recovery but if it leaves a scar you've got to think up a more impressive story than that

Yes, yes taffytim but what about the bike? Is it forked (literally)? That's got to tickle bit. Did similar when I was a kid. Chicks dig scars though so milk it and mend well.

Thanks chaps, the doc (who was called Dr Martin and had the casualty ring tone on his phone)said quite convincingly that it will leave only a faint scar, heres hoping he wasn't just giving some convincing bedside chat. Im starting to compose a story involving an escaped zoo animal and a shark with a lazer to beef up my anecdote

Yes, yes taffytim but what about the bike? Is it forked (literally)? Sorry, i forgot to say the wheel seems absolutely fine apart a couple of tough blood spots on the bar tape. The front wheel is still spinning true and freely. Ive not ridden it since so not sure if the folks are damaged but i think all the momentum went through my face and not through the bike so i think ive got away with it

"In fact I didn't even realise I was injured, until I got home and went to have a shave..."
Joking aside, hope you're feeling better soon.
