I've done Fleetwood to Whitby and reverse quite a few times in a day. You need to be pretty fit and in warm weather stay hydrated. Get an early start especially if doing it in months of limited daylight.
What route did you have in mind? The official C2C from Whitehaven to Tynemouth/Sunderland? Way of the Roses? I've done the official C2C which was a pretty decent route and did that in 2 days wild camping just after the Hartside climb near Alston.

Cheers Dave, I knew you would have done this. I dont have a route in mind i just know its something I'd like to do but do it in a day. I think I'd have to look at staying over the night before so I could get an early start in and ask the wife to pick me up from the finish point.

This was something i'd intended to do this year but it never happened. I have got a route somewhere so i'll dig it out for you. Think it was about 138 miles with about 12,000 foot of climbing.

The prevailing winds are from the South West so you would be better off planning to start on the west coast. Whitby is a great place to finish and well worth an overnight stay. I normally stop in the YHA which is part of Whitby Abbey on the headland. It is pretty plush and the breakfasts are ace. There are loads of B and B's to go at as well. The official C2C route has some pretty steep climbs and might be a big ask if you haven't done one before. Here are my tracks from last time I went over. I normally do it in 2 days and camp over at the Tan Hill Inn but that involves a big climb over Buttertubs pass and beyond as well as a rough track down to Bowes. www.strava.com/activities/50131029www.strava.com/activities/50324479The outward route isn't one I would normally take. I went astray at Bedale and then put in a loop further on to bump up the mileage above 150 miles. Blackpool Tower to Whitby..?? ... or make it shorter by starting at Morecambe. Garmin Connect - Blackpool to Whitby connect.garmin.com/course/7505630When are you thinking of doing the trip? Cheers Dave, some intresting routes and links there my friend. I have been looking at the calendar and it doesnt make good reading in terms of putting my plan into action due to a mix of work, childcare and holidays. I wish I had thought if doing this sooner as I can see its going to take some planning. i think I will use this to plan a trip for spring next year which will give me something to aim for and a reason to train hard over the winter.

You should be fine then, mate. There is another one. The Transpennine Trail but it is not really suitable for road bikes. I've done a few stretches of it and was glad to get back on the road. www.transpenninetrail.org.uk/cyclists/

And another option. The Eastern end runs close to my home so I use sections of it regularly. As it goes past Tan Hill I expect Dave will be familiar with sections too. w2w

Another one I have done a few times is Fleetwood to Tynemouth via Buttertubs joining the official C2C at Stanhope. Really good route which is better split at Tan Hill rather than a one day jobbie. There's quite a few sections on the road but a lot arn't and not suitable for road bikes. The third day would have been great on the road bike though.

Your' track seems to follow the Pennine way rather than the "other road or track" on the OS map. I'm assuming this is a job for the comfy bike not the T3. The alternative would be up Arkengarthdale.
