When I got my bike I had a Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 phone that I wasn't using, so started using it to run the MapMyRide app, and I'm too cheap to buy a Garmin.
Since I got it I've struggled to find a way to attach it to the bike so I can see it when riding. I've used a frame bag which worked by I wanted to move away from having a couple of bags, and all the phone holders I could find were either bulky or weren't designed for the oversized handle bars.
Last week I bought a stem conversion for a bottle holder, and on the first run out I ended up selling it to somebody who needed it more than I did. Rather than buying another I decided to try one of these.
Which will expand to 38mm, so it'll fit on the stem, handlebars or seat post. But ended up ordering two with an idea in mind - think they came in at under a tenner delivered.
you need a 4mm hex key and there's one on the side (as you can see in the picture) which removes bottle holder bracket; then you can undo another so you can fit in in place. As you can remove the bottle holder bracket you don't need to take the entire thing off if you don't want to have a bottle on the front...
So... on to the second one.
I attached it onto the handle bar and bought a cheap plastic bottle holder.
and cut it down so I just had the back length with the bolt holes, and cut that down to size and attached on to the bracket on the handlebars. drill two holes on each side, and some adjoining holes on a hard case for the phone... attach together with cable ties, drop the phone in and.....
The phone clips in to the case pretty tightly so shouldn't fall out, but I'll probably use a couple of cable ties till i'm confident it's not going to escape.
