Hi folks,
I have a T7 which is all Tiagra components to which im very happy with, however as with most people I cant help wonder how big a difference it would make if I were to start upgrading some of the parts to Ultegra spec....chain, cassette, front & rear derailleurs.
Is there much improvement and would I need to change the shifters and the chainset to get the full benefit of an Ultegra set up?
Thanks

IMO, When Tiagra components wear out, you can of course replace them with 10speed Ultegra parts. If you can afford it, and you enjoy upgrading, why not! It's all marginal differences, is the extra cost worth it, for the marginal weight saving and better operation....it's your choice. My method of upgrading my 5A, was to buy a secondhand T7. But then I'm not an upgrader, which is my choice. Good luck, and enjoy your T7, whichever way you choose to go.

The T7 will look nice with the grey Ultegra chainset. I would assume if you keep it as 10 speed then you should be able to get away with upgrading a bit at a time, depends on whether you are swapping from a compact/double/ triple chainset when it comes to shifters. The most expensive part/s are going to be the 6700 STI levers. I like the Ultegra, does feel much smoother than Tiagra and looks more pleasing to the eye. Up to you if you want to do it, if you do I would suggest you do it yourself and save some money and get to understand your bike setup more. If you do get stuck then youtube is your friend

I have Ultegra on my Pro Carbon. I would say the only noticeable 'real' difference is the looks and slight weight advantage. I personally would not look at 'upgrading' from Tiagra until you need to or really must have the name. I don't think you will really notice the difference for pleasure riding.

To be honest I doubt most of us would notice much difference, so personally I'd only upgrade when stuff wore out and even then only if could find a good deal. Otherwise I'd stick to 2x10 Tiagra (with odd bit of 105 or Ultega if found good deal - i.e. I've got a 105 derailleur as it was only Β£1 more than Tiagra etc.)

So, lets throw Sora in the mix too. If upgrading, what would you upgrade to in order to see a difference?

I think the upgrade from sora is to go ten speed, be that tiagra, 105 or whatever.
