Genuinely @veganpower how are you finding the stages PM? (maybe you have already given a review here, sorry if I've missed it)

Yep - agree with you @veganpower, let's roll out the 'who gives one' response, it's effective but also the response of someone who opts out of listening and answering debate questions that they don't like the sound of IMO ... but hey ho. I'm going to be bullish and close this thread due to lack of balance and open minded critical content. Perhaps we'll open a new one when there's something of substance to report over time, it does take time of course to develop real world views on these issues. I am totally serious about the content of this forum and healthy lifestyles, connecting the vegan thing with power meters is not really scientific or self critically rational - there's no criticism of life style choices and conclusions here from me, I just dislike seeing associations of issues put together in a non scientific manner - yep, attitudes to change and progressive movements have a feel to them that people roll with and I like where DurianRider is going but it's very rough sketch style thinking and needs firming up to be more convincing.

Gosh! 18 months ago. I'm still not at the stage where I'm good enough to warrant getting a power meter.

I think they'll be like mobile phones, when silly expensive 'why would I need one of those' once cheap and commonplace 'how did I ever manage without it'. Having used a Wattbike I can see how they could benefit anyone, arguably as much or more for beginners making training and pacing simple and giving motivation to improve.

OK on static bike, still waiting to see someone apply a power managed ride on undulating terrain that actually shows performance gains, can understand it for fatigue management, also for fixed duration shorter events over well studied terrain in a TT, perhaps also flat and fixed gradient climbing efforts for solo non drafted riding (most triathlons) but still struggling to get my head round how it would be used effectively on most everyday varied road routes I would do elsewhere, yet to see how you can't just do this by relating training knowledge of HR on static training across onto the road for say a 4 or 5 hour sportive.

Surely better fatigue management is a performance gain?

Thinking only in the sense of not going pop, like my legs did with cramp on The Embankment for Ride London, but then I know that was from riding too hard in a few mini races within the sportive and chasing Mavic car like a loon etc, which was asking for trouble, might have ridden that a little more sensibly with power numbers flashing a warning of over cooking it, otherwise can't see me riding any differently but tbh, I know that now with hindsight / experience and can probably do it with HR and feel.

Veganpower has made very good use of his power meter. Cycled 28km this year alone! If that's not cycling enough to warrant the use of a power meter, I don't know what is!

Now now, although I guess it's fair comment to say you do need a sufficient quantity of metrics to be able to compare them .

Have you not seen his videos? He's a Durian Rider clone. Anything he says is to be discounted!

They're entitled to their opinions, we don't have to agree though ... but I'm always open minded as to where these things go and how they pan out, happy to have been proven wrong but actually, it's just a shame to see my concerns for kit purchase put before simply getting out there and riding proving true; we're trying to promote accessible riding for everyone here ... at least I thought we were?

Can you drop him an email to see if he wants to sell his Stages PM?
